KimM.
I imagine my story is remarkably similar to many others here. I'm 39 (for a couple more months), 5' 9" and have been battling weight issues since around the age of 10, despite being athletic throughout my youth. If there's a diet, program or pill for weight loss, I've tried it. Everything worked in the short term but the weight has always come back.
I began investigating weight loss surgery about two years ago (RNY) was intimidated by such a drastic procudure and lifestyle change. I decided I could do this on my own and failed yet again. A few months ago I met with a GI doctor; he mentioned that I was a good candidate for weight loss surgery and, based on my history, recommended I look into it as the most viable option.
In investigating treatment options, I was reading some before and after testimony and stumbled upon a story praising "DS." I'd never heard of the procedure and my reserach led me here. The more I read about the surgery from others who've had it and succeeded in reaching their goals, the more hopeful I became.
Right now, the hurdle is getting started and approved through insurance. Then consult with my PCP, then talk to a surgeoun, then the battery of tests... It's a lenghty and somewhat complicated process, but I'm in the fight.
