Time For Change

Jun 03, 2010

It's about time...time for a huge change in my life.  I have been fat for way too long and if I want to be here to watch my grandchildren grow up I'd better lose this weight.  Well, this Monday, June 7th @ 8:30 am my change will come.  My RNY surgery will be done by Dr. Jonathan Schoen.  I am so excited about what my life will be like without this extra weight!    I have health problems that I know will improve.  I am on oxygen 24/7/365.  I want to be off of it completely within 2 years!  I have been on it for 5 years now.   I also have hypertension.  I really believe this is weight related.  Ditto for high cholesterol.  Then there's chronic pain.  Arthritis is the major cause.  Dr. Schoen said that because I take high doses of pain meds on a regular basis that I will likely have a lot of pain after my surgery and when I go home.  I must say that I am dreading that possibility!  Hopefully they will figure out a way to make me more comfortable.  I also have a genetic disease that hits 1:50,000-100,000 people.  It's called CVID. (Common Variable Immune Deficiency)  This is another cause of my chronic pain.  I have to go in and get antibodies every 4 weeks... IVIG (Intravenous Immunoglobulins).  Because of this I am a higher risk for infection after my surgery.  I am participating in a study at University Hospital where they will give me a larger dose of a certain antibiotic than usual.  This should help considerably.  I think I'll be fine.   Well, enough of the "rough side" of my surgery and ills.  My life is about to change in a multitude of ways.  All for the positive!!!  I even like the protein shakes!  lol  My husband will think he has a whole new woman!  I am sure I will feel like one! lol  I have a terrific support team.  My husband has been terrific!  He is my rock!  I also have the best friend in the world!  She stands by me no matter what.  Then there's the bariatric surgery support group.  What a terrific group of people!  I have only been to one meeting so far but I was very impressed!  I can see how it helps keep a person on track.  But...I have to start at the beginning of the race...Monday morning @ 8:30...my date with destiny and a bright future.   I can't wait to begin my journey.
