To Tell or Not to tell

Feb 20, 2017

So I remember when I was first looking into weightloss surgery, a lot of people were completely against it. Some would tell me to just work out more and eat less (like I hadn't tried literally every diet in the history of the world), or imply that somehow I was taking the easy way out with surgery. Funny that people that do not uderstand a single thing about being MO have the strongest opinions.

I know this is a private matter and depends per individulal, BUT I chose to be VERY open about my decision. At the time I was working in a very corporate environment. It was exhausting to me to even think about how to explain my leave of absense, my rapid weight loss, and even the inability to eat large quantities of food in public.

It was a tough decison for me, BUT I think that I made the best one for me as a person. Yes, having any weight issues was embarrasing, admitting to the surgery was another, BUT it was completely worth it. I decided to tell everyone so they could expect what was to come and understand that either they were in support of me OR I was going to have to step back from them for a long time. The surgery was life changing for me. Literally the BEST thing I have ever done for myself. Anyone that was not in support, I had to cut out for a bit. Those that were in support of me were my shining stars. They understood that being MO was NOT my choice. I wanted a "normal life" with less pain and frustration.

I know that a lot of my friends that have had a weight-loss surgery keep it a secret. I get it. I just personally chose to keep it completely open. It was a great decision for me personally BUT I understand that some people are not blessed with a super support team, that sometimes even those closest to us can betray us because of their lack of understanding.

I was just curious about how other's experiences were. It was a really tough decision for me to make, but I did. However, I can also see how others may not see it as beneficial in their own personal experience and situation.

Thanks!!
