I've struggled with my weight my entire adult life. It seems I've tried hundreds of things to lose weight. Most of the time they work, just not for the the long term. In February, 2007 I had Lap Band surgery. I had great results, never cheated on my diet and was the happiest I can ever remember until I had a slip just 5 months after having it placed. I'm a nurse. I understand the importance of post-op instructions. I followed them to the letter. I never vomited even once, yet a slip. The band was deflated and I sat for a month waiting for my stomach to go back into place but it didn't. In July, I had a slip repair surgery yet several months later, it slipped again. Long story short, I had a removal in July 2008 weighing 165lbs (almost 80lbs lost). The surgeon tried to talk me into having a gastric bypass during the removal of the band, warning me that I would gain the weight back. I refused thinking if I had a GBP at 165lbs I'd die of malnutrition. I did lots of research and wanted to have the VSG done instead, but my bariatric center didn't yet perform it. Years passed and I maintained my weight within 20lbs or so and then steadily it crept back up until now, 8 years after removal I am back to the weight I was when I had my original surgery. I'm going to an informational session in a few weeks to see if I am a candidate. I have not changed jobs in the past 8 years. However, our hospital changed insurance providers. I'm thinking that's going to be a problem.
