Hi! My name is Katie, I am 26 years old, and I am so excited for my WLS journey. I have never been a small girl, but I used to be so active, horseback riding, swimming and hiking with my dogs. After a bad riding accident, I didn't change my eating habits from an athlete's diet to one for someone more sedentary. Combine that with emotional eating, and a bunch of other stuff and here I am.

When I started my weight loss journey about 2 years ago, I was at my highest of around 330. I was barely able to walk with my dogs, much less hike with them. I had not been on a horse in about 5 years, because of fear and my weight, and I was too ashamed to even think of wearing my swimsuit. I have joint issues, some of which I was born with, but they have been worsened by my weight for sure. I developed NASH or fatty liver, and it started to clue in that I needed to make a change, but I was too entrenched in bad habits to make it happen. It was only after I developed severe menorrhagia due to my weight and was hospitalized that I decided to make the changes to get healthy.

So I got my doctor to write me a referral and started this magnificent journey. I still haven't gotten the nerve up to go riding yet, mainly because it's too hard to find a saddle to fit still, but I have started swimming again, and walking with my dogs. I'll be joining a gym soon too! Through more exercise and healthier eating habits, I lost 25 lbs on my own. Now I am on the Optifast, and I have lost another 12. I have surgery on January the 11, and I am so nervous, and excited, and happy. I'm basically a big ball of emotion.

I can't wait to let you all know how I am doing, to get and give support!
