I am a 58 year old woman that was more than a hundred pounds over weight, but I didn't have any of the normal health problems that was typical for a morbidly obese person. I did however have the issues that caused my weight gain to begin with, i.e. severe back pain and the issues it creates. I had a surgery the year prior to this and had a spinal cord stimulator implanted. After the recovery when I started walking to lose weight and quickly tore my meniscus. While meeting with my doctor I found out I had no cartilage left in my knees. The doctor said at my weight walking wouldn't be a good idea. That was the motivation I needed to meet with my bariatric surgeon Dr. Chebis. It took me a year from meeting with my doctor to having the gastric sleeve surgery on March 27th. I have already dropped 77 pounds (some prior to surgery) and feel fantastic. And yes I am walking and my knees and back appreciates the loss.
