Almost eleven years out post RNY surgery

May 28, 2017

I never lost more than about 88 lb, but then I put on about 35 lb two years out.  I lost about 20 from that point and have added and taken off the same 10 lb over and over.  I end up with bacterial overgrowth in my gut that causes diarrhea as a result of surgery.  The overgrowth is treated with antibiotics every few years, but it helps me keep down on my weight.  Now that it has been treated again, I put on that ten lb again since Christmas.  Although my weight has stayed fairly constant, my muscle mass is less and my body contour is different, making me feel fatter.  I am 59 years old now, which makes a difference.

I graze too much.  I don't have enough protein.  My labs are all good.  I have type 2 diabetes, but my HGA1C is pretty good.  My B12 is on the lower side because sometimes I don't take it on time every thirty days.  I drink when I eat and drink too much diet soda.  I have not been exercising like I should.

I share all of this because I want to get back to using my tool and start loosing again.  I need to start over and try the pouch reset diet, then get over bad habits of grazing, etc.  I am back on the forum for motivation and to relearn how to use this surgery to improve my health.  I have several other issues, such as hip arthritis and spinal stenosis that will benefit from additional weight loss.

Thank you in advance for any support you may provide on my new journey!

Six Month Update

Feb 25, 2007

Well, it has been six months since my surgery.  I have been trying to get to that magical 199 lb., so I can experience Onderland again!  It has been 24 years!  I fit into a size 16W pants now.  That is amazing to me.  People are calling me skinny-minny.  That is amazing too!  I feel better, and look better.  I have lost over 70 lb.  Things are slowing down, and I snack a little too much, but overall I am happy.  I keep saying that "slow and steady wins the race", and I believe that.  I will not get discouraged if I keep going down on the scale and in clothes sizes.  I have at least 30 to 50 more pounds that I would like to loose.

Five month update

Jan 28, 2007

Well, it has been five months since my surgery!  Time flies by quickly.  My total weight loss is now 67 lb.  I have been feeling that the weight loss has slowed down so much because I have had several weeks in a row that the scale did not move.  My scales at home keep going up and down by about 4 lb.  But, when I weighed today at work, I see I am down 2 lb. since last week, and at lease 3 lb. over the past three week.  My goal is to loose ten pounds a month, if I can.  I know that it will slow down the lower in weight I get.  I still have a good 35 lb. to loose to reach my doctor's goal weight for me.  Of course, I would love to loose an additional 30 after that, to reach my own goal.  Even if I did not loose another pound, the surgery would have been worth it to me.  I feel better, even though all of my hip pain has not yet resolved.  I have more energy and am able to walk up hill without getting short of breath.  God is good.  He has given me a second chance to live a longer life in order to serve Him.

50 pounds gone!!!

Nov 30, 2006

December 1, 2006 - I have now lost over 50 lb.  It sure does feel good!!  I have gone from size 24/26 to 18/20.  I feel more energetic and have less hip pain than I would have, but I am not pain free.  Looking forward to that day!
