11/21/03 My Dr. has told me to start trying to eat solid soft food, but I'm so afraid that I will hurt something. I could really continue with the full liquid diet, but I know I need more nutrients and it's time for me to start learning how to eat with my new stomach. I have been taking it very slow. I had to take a trip out of town this weekend with a group of ladies that simply love to eat and it's very hard for me. I never realized what a love affair I had with food until now. I feel like I'm going into depression, this is a real a trial for me. I wasn't as ready for this as I thought. I started to cancel the trip but I committed before I had my surgery. And they won't leave me alone, they keep asking, "are you alright, why aren't you eating, are you full already". You will be glad to know that I stayed on course and ate only those things that I was suppose to eat. I'm learning my new "baby" and I'm careful not to get it too full, because I don't want to get sick. Well, I need to get ready for another eating event...a banquet, I'm still full from my 2oz. of lunch. Take care.

Hi, my name is Allison, I'm 37, married with 2 children (14 and 20), I also have a very loving grandson he's 4. Please forgive me for not posting anything earlier, I just never found the time. My story starts out just like everyone else, I have struggled with my weight since I had my first child. I tried diet after diet only to gain the weight back time and time again. Then I heard about gastric bypass and thought it was a bit extreme but decided to do some research. I looked into this procedure for about 2 years but everyone that had it was out of reach, like movie stars and TV personalities. During my research of finding real people that had the surgery I found that there were individuals that I worked with that had gastric bypass. I started asking question and getting the answers I needed to make my decision. Then my best friend decided to go ahead with the surgery, I told her she would be the test model for me. Even after she had it done I was still a little hesitant, by the way, she is fine. She has already lost 87# in 8 months. To make a long story short I went ahead and took the plung. My family has been very supportive of my decision. My husband says he will miss my volumptous body, especially the hips, but he will adjust. I am 3 weeks post op (surgery date: 10/29)and doing great. I was approved for my surgery took only just 2 weeks after submitting all my paperwork. I've already lost 21#. It was worth the research and surgery. The tube is a little aggrevating I'm still a little sore, but I'll live. This is just part of the procedure. I think the biggest adjustment is learning not to gulp. Sometimes I so thristy I just start drinking without thinking. Well, until my next update, take care.
