Mount Carmel Bariatric Center

"Hospital was good. One nurse was totally condescending, and I will be sending a letter in reference to her. VERY unaccommodating."

Phillip Price

"I have not met the dr yet. My initial consult is May 10, 2002 (7 month waiting list).
Office staff was VERY helful with the scheduling of the appointment. Very supportive and friendly.
05/10/02 I met Dr Price and his resident, Dr Smith. As a side note, my husband had surgery with the resident's father AND grandfather previously. They were urologists and he is going into ENT. Small world (he had the exact same name, Jr) so Bruce asked.
The resident was very thorough and asked lots of questions. Then Dr Price came in. He was very helpful and informative. The only drawback was that he named the number of surgeries he has performed lap RNY. That was a little daunting (only 80). But if you think about it, it isn't that small as this isn't the only type of surgery he has done. He didn't quantify the open RNYs, so there is not telling how many he did that way.
He explained he would start lap, but if he couldn't get the results he wanted lap, he would open me up so it would be 100% perfect. That is fine. I would rather it be done right, than wrong just to save an incision.
The staff seemed responsive, but that was my first impression. Dr said he was dictating the letter to BC "today" indicating he was sure there was sleep apnea and he was sending me to a sleep study to verify. And that he was sending me to the psych eval, but felt there would be no problem getting clearance. Now, we will see how responsive the staff is by when they send the letter, set up the sleep study appt and also the ultrasound (for gallbladder as a preventitive).
Least? He was very to the point and business like which could put some people off. BUT I am an ABC, 123 get to the point person, so it didn't bother me at all. He had his speech memorized, but when he was done, he didn't jump up and run out. We had open dialog.
Future patients should know it took me 7 months to get to my initial consult. He also indicated it would take apprx 2 months to get a surgery date (for lap) after approval. He does the surgery with a partner, so the schedules have to be worked out together.
He was very clear about follow-up care and your participation in using the tool of the surgery. Not all flowers and candy, hard work.
He addressed the risks of the surgery informing us that only one of his patients has had a problem, but that it is possible I could too. It's surgery, it's risky, and anything could happen.
I would, at this point, put him at an 8. We shall see how it proceeds (and how quickly his staff responds).
Surgery is over. Dr is a SURGEON, not much else to say about him. All the hospital staff praise him highly. He is extremely busy with his surgeries. I would recommend him. Just realize no matter who you see, it is hurry up and wait, wait, wait."

"The only problem I have with the doctor was that I cannot find any psych referrals on the OSU/Harding Website. In other words, I cannot find out his credentials because I cannot locate him in their system. He was wonderful to work with. The session consisted of a long T/F test (and by the way, if you are psycho the test will tell them). Some of the questions are entirely outrageous, but it is the standardized test. If contemplating self-pay at this time (May 2002) it would be $294. He was an out of network dr, so I paid $147 (50% of the bill) and it was well worth it. We discussed life after the surgery and the lifechanging aspects, etc. He was a good listener. I would recommend him to all in Columbus, Ohio seeking a supportive practioner. "
