"I went to this doctor because he was on my insurance so I wasn't really sure how he would be......
I was pleasantly surprised because he was very supportive of me having the surgery.
He said if you had asked him several years ago he would have said not but he had some patients
that had been through this surgery and he noticed the difference in them.....mostly for the better and
that made him change his mind. As soon as I told him about my family, social and diet history he was in
complete agreement that it was necessary. I'm not sure about the office staff because I had limited contact
with them but it took a month to get the letter to my surgeon and they said they had sent it the same day. I had
to ask them to fax another copy to the office which they did do the next day."
"Dr. Dunham was awesome! She had had some experience with some other patients that were trying to have this same surgery.
She knew exactly what she needed to order to get me started (blood work, sleep study, etc.) Once I did these things, she followed
up with me to make sure everything was done. She may not be 100% into this surgery for everyone but she didn't try to talk me out
of it either and was extremely helpful. On my last visit with her she told me that I was her first patient that had been approved
that she knew of....."
"After looking at the different physicians on this site, I started checking with my insurance to see if any were on my plan.
Dr. Horrilleno is not on the plan but the hospital that he practices out of is on the plan (Medical City). Since I work for HCA, I found out
that our insurance will cover 100% if we stay with an HCA facility. That helped me narrow down my options. On 12/1/01, I went to Dr. Horrilleno's Gastric
Bypass Seminar. I must say I was impressed with him and his presentation. He seemed a little stiff with the public speaking but that made him a little more
endearing since I hate public speaking myself. There were some former patients of his and one that also works for him there. I have to say that their enthusiasm
was very infectious. They were very willing to talk about their individual situations and passed around their before pictures. They were very willing to answer any
questions. Dr. Horrilleno was very adamant about the after care program and follow up visits which I appreciated. I was approached by another practice(in another town) that
wasn't as strict with their after care as I would have expected. That was one of the reasons I decided to stick with someone in the Dallas area. I also found that Dr. Horrilleno
was very honest with the surgical risks and outcomes. He talked about some problems that he had had in the past and what he was doing to change things for the future. I found
this very refreshing and appreciated his honesty however blunt it may have been. I wonder how many other surgeons would be as forthcoming? At this point, I think I will reserve
a rating until I get further into the process but until proven otherwise, I think I've made the right choice."
