Hi everyone! Thanks for the posts and the support! I'm home from the hospital (well, technically, I'm at my parent's home.) I can't even tell you how well recovery went for me. Absolutely unbelievable, I was almost in no pain, from the time I woke up in recovery, through the drive to my parents' house! I've had very, very little pain, only discomfort or pressure (and usually pretty mild at that!) (my only outright pain was a REALLY sore throat the first & early part of the second days.) I got up and out of bed for the first time (and walked to the bathroom) within 2 hours of surgery . . . and I got up 4 or 5 more times that first day. I walked a ton the next day, and even more today. All the nurses kept saying, "You're our star patient. . . I can't believe you even had surgery!" My mom and Grandma were waiting in my hospital room, and as they wheeled me from recovery (which I'd only been in 45 minutes), I saw them and brightly exclaimed "Hi Mom, Hi Grandma!!!" They said I wasn't the least bit drowsy or out of it (although I was kinda tired). And I was never 'foggy' or 'cloudy' or out of it from medicine or anything . . . I was awake and alert and feeling pretty darn good :) I did use my morphine pump when the tightness or pressure seemed to be building up, but by the second day I'd pretty much figured out that it wasn't doing anything for the pressure feeling, but walking made all the difference in the world.
Anyway, I'm outta the hospital and feeling really good, and I'm feeling so blessed that the first part of this journey has been so pleasant! I know I've just begun the process that will change my life, but I'm just so grateful that the first part didn't come anywhere near my nightmarish expectations of surgery :)
