My best wishes to you on your upcoming surgery. I hope all goes well for you and that you have a speedy, problem free recovery. My husband and I BOTH had our open rny's at Pacific Bariatric in 2001 (in San Diego, CA. ) I had mine in June and have lost 110 lbs with about 30 more to go. My husband had his in Oct. 2001 and has lost 215 lbs and is at goal. We both have the greatest respect for all of the doctors at PB and the staff too. We had the best treatment from our surgeon, Dr. Rumsey. He is fantastic!!! We also had great treatment at Scripps/Mercy hosp. The staff there is well trained and they take good care of you. Good luck to you on your journey to the losing side!! BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND YOU WILL SUCCEED!!!!!

stacey, i also have kaiser, my surgery with pacific bariatrics will be on wed 10/23. dr zorn is my surgeon. you should be getting your date soon. congratulations.

Hi everyone! I wanted to post an update that my best friend, my angel and angelette Stacey received her referal for surgery today! She goes for her blood test and EKG on Monday. She has completed her mandatory seminars for Kaiser and Pacific Bariatric, and done their required bloodwork, so she is on her way! Stacey, I'm so happy and so proud of you! Keep up the good work. Now it's time to start your protein and your exercise program! Your surgery date will be here before you know it! I love you so much, you are such a blessing to me and such a great friend!!! I'm so glad that I have you in my life. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you wherever you are in your journey! My surgery is in 14 short days!!!!!!! God bless you all..........

It's such an indivdual thing, these protein shakes, most of them are nasty......I found Pure Pro vanilla and strawberry pre-mixed shakes at GNC or Trader Joes are the ones I can handle the best. ANytime I tried a powder that had to be mixed with milk or water, I found it really disgusting. During those first 8 weeks after surgery, you really need to get in at least one shake a day for your energy. After the 8 weeks was over, I found that I can tolerate the protein bars much better than the shakes. CarbSolutions makes a Fudge Almond Bar and a ChocolateMint Bar that are very low carb and very tasty for about 25 grams of Protein each! Atkins makes a choclate/coconut bar with 19 grams of protein that is delicious! There are many other flavors/varieties, those are just my favorites, easier than drinking a 12 ounce shake down too. Just watch the carbohydrate counts.

Stacey, there is a support group in Fountain Valley every Monday night at Orange Coast Medical Center (off the 405 at Brookhurst St.) and one in Newport Beach near Hoag Hospital. I'm going to go to the Fountain Valley one this week or next so I can give you more info if you want it. The one in Newport is sponsored by a doctor named (I think) Quebman or Quebmann. Let me know if you want more info. I live in Huntington Beach.
