"I was extremely supprised by my first and only pre-op visit with the surgeon. A group of potential WLS patients and myself were weighed and directed to a meeting room. A diatician discussed the WLS surgery types available and handed out info regarding each. Food, diet, vitamin needs etc. were discussed. Dr. Buchwald came into the room and spent a little time going over each surgery option and answering questions. Then we all went in the hall and one by one came back into the room to meet with Dr. Buchwald. He asked about morbidities and general health questions (honestly, I can't remember, I was in la la land). THEN he asked me to choose what type of surgery I wanted. Scary - I choose Vertical banded gastroplasty but later changed my mind. Now I am having Gastric Bypass or Roux N Y.
I brought my medical records but no one asked for them.
I called the next day and got a surgery date 5 months later. Very simple.
I picked Dr. Buchwald because of all the research I did, he is the best in my area. He has a lower death rate and fewer complications. "
