Yes, PROTEIN is the key. I did alot of crazy things to get my protein. I have never drank the drinks. I get my proteins from high protein meats. and Lean cuisine dinners. stay away from pastas, breads, potatoes, sweets. Only time I do eat these things is when they are in my Lean cuisine dinners. I also BOIL my hamburgers never fried. I have even used the jucier. I would throw a piece of chicken, beef, or turkey in with some broth.(I'd cook the meats first) Then I would drink it. But this was in the beginning of my surgery. Now I will cook my meats real tender in the crook pot or in the oven. until it is falling off the bones. But like I said I focus on high protein meats, 64oz water, exercise, and my vitamins. my wls was 12/6/02 and I have loss 105 lbs. I can't believe I have come this far. So you hang in there, you are doing great. darn once I loss 2 lbs in a month. Grrrrrrr. what I did was stoped eating those pastas, potatoes etc... everyone is different stay focused on yourself. take care~*~Hugs~*~

6/6/03 -- a bit over 5 wks post op -- this is actually me Wendy Hilton. But I can't figure out how to get to a screen that lets me add to my own comments -- someone email me PLEASE. This site is CONFUSING. Had one month check up with surgeon's partner (apparently she does all the operating now and he does the office work), actually 5 weeks. At 30 days post op I had lost 18.5 pounds, which I found disappointly low (everything I read said 25 to 40 first month), and the four-week mark by the calendar (instead of counting days) was only 22. I'm down 26 pounds now, that's better, my clothes are finally getting significantly loose. Have thrown up only once, day I came home from the hospital. Have become lactose-intolerant, which I hear is common, now I have to carry around Lactaid. It's getting a bit boring on peanut butter, yogurt, and tuna, have tried chicken well-cooked, it's OK, but beef (ground beef) is too stringy/tough/fibrous. I chewed forever, then spit it out, not worth it. I'm not hungry and I LIKE not being hungry. Very hard to get in all water and protein has been a problem -- all mixes are horrible, sorry, Vitalady, I tried several different kinds. Can only tolerate Isopure liquid (not powder) -- kinda like Gatorade but GREAT protein -- 40 grams for 20 oz bottle. But it gets tedious to drink that, too, it takes forever, plus the local vitamin store only has 5-6 bottles at any one time. If anyone knows an Internet source, please email me -- so far, the one I found with good price cost as much for the case as the shipping -- glass bottles are heavy. I wouldn't say I'm at the "I'd do this again in a heartbeat" stage yet, it's been complicated and difficult, and despite laparoscopy, am not back at full energy levels, caught a terrible cold last week, still have it after 12 days. With so much weight to lose, people just don't notice -- my own mother didn't notice, so that's discouraging. Still, I can definitely say I'm not sorry I did it, and I expect things to get better. My BMI has already gone from 44/45 to 40, my blood pressure has dropped 20 points, and of the 8 medicines I took pre-op for various conditions, I have found so far that I only need one of them (to sleep at night). Thanks for reading this and any help on the two questions above, MUCH appreciate. Wendy
