I had my surgery on March 17th and things went well. I of course had some minor complications (It's a nurses curse) I had some small bowel obstruction which caused me not to be able to consume the amount of liquids I need for Nutrients and Hydration. I got to my room post op at about 12:00 and was up walking by 5:00 the next day I felt great I think the incisional pain pump was a God send. I walked and visited all day my nursing friends couldn't believe how good I was feeling. that evening they took out the IV and I started drinking I was suppose to be taking 4oz an hour but I was bloated and felt if I drank one more ounce I would blow.I hate vomitting! I got the lecture from the nurses and Dr Sofronski about the importance of liquids I tried but by 7Pm wednesday I was vomitting and with a new incision it was no fun. Iv went back in because I was dehydrated I was having alot of right flank pain, we think it was because of the filter I had put in prior to the surgery. Once I was empty I felt good. Thursday since I hadnt moved my bowels I got 2 suppositories each having small results. now my bowels were moving they wanted me drinking again. I started out good but by mid day I was full and couldnt consume any more. I looked bigger then when I came in it was starting to get depressing. Friday I didnt feel any better still very full so I asked for an enema thinking maybe I could get things to go through. Mike ordered milk and molasses, what ever happened to hot water. well it worked I spent most of the day on the pot. My Iv came out and no one could get it started so there was no medical reason for me to stay. I went home feeling yucky. I ended up vomitting again and sleeping in the recliner. At least it was home. the next day was good I was drinking my protein shake and liked it (that's how sick I was) by afternoon I had push it again, once I reached about 30oz I started vomitting again. I meet the dr in the ER he was great he stayed with me the whole time. I drank some dye and had a Cat Scan that showed a blockage and without going in for surgery we really wouldnt know why I was blocked. another surgery caught me of guard and I got emotional but I trusted Dr Sofronski. For reason above anyones controll the surgery wouldnt be done sat. night but sunday morning. Dr Sofronski ordered some xrays sunday morning and the dye amazingly had worked its way throught to the colon. No surgery needed. Thank God! Power of Prayer works.I was sent home on Monday.7 days in the hospital and extra week of clear liquid diet. but I feel good. I've lost 12.5lbs and every time I think about the problems that I had I have to understand it was minor cosidering this was a major surgery, and all worth it. I still have days when I tire easy and my incision is open and leaking a little but it is all worth it. tomorrow will be 2 wks and Though I have had some cravings I really dont Have much appetite. I get my protein shake in (I had to go by chocolate)and sip on fluids all day I've been trying bites of pureed foods so for so good. I don't eat much more than a couple bites. Its hard to tell if I am full since I wasn't hungry to start with. But no vomitting since the 1st week post op.
