Sandra is now off the oxygen mask. Her levels are back to normal, including her oxygen, bp, and pulse. They took out the cath (sp?). Sandra had her first lunch and dinner today, and all is fine. She is getting up and walking around. She was able to see her two younger children for a few minutes today while she was walking around the unit. They are hoping to put her into a regular room tomorrow, then she can see all three of her kids. Of couse, she is still sore, but she is taking less pain medication so as not to feel groggy. The nursing staff and the drs have been very good to her and to us, her family.

Well, I spent the whole day and evening with my sister. Sandra sat in a chair for a little bit today. Her oxygen levels have not been that good most of the day. She dropped to 60. She also had a fever. However, when I left her at 9 pm, the temperature was down and her oxygen was at 98. They have her on an oxygen mask right now and are giving her breathing treatments. She has developed a little fluid in her lungs and they are not expanding properly, that is why the oxygen keeps going down. Sandra is working with a resporatory therapist now and they also did a blood gas. Sandra's pulse has been a little high, so they had a cardiologist come in and examin her. He said it is not dangerous, but put her on some medicine to lower it. They have still been giving her heparin to keep away blood clots. Dr. S visited with Sandra and said the incision looks good and for her to keep up her breathing treatments. She is having a test done tomorrow to make sure there are no blood clots in her lungs causing the breathing problems. The doctors don't believe there is, but they are being safe. Sandra has been handling the pain a little better today, and taking less medication. She is expected to be off the morphine pump tomorrow and they are taking out the cath (sp?). They are going to have her up and around a little more tomorrow. Her spirits are still up there though. She is being hopeful that each day will be better and that this is all worth it for a better and healthier life. I know Sandra is still a little scared something may go wrong or her breathing won't get better, but I also know she is hopeful. I have talked to the nurses in the CCU and they have been very open with me. They said Sandra is doing fine and will get over the breathing difficulties, it just will take time and healing. They have seen many of these symptoms develop after major surgery and they are very treatable, just takes time. I think she will be in the CCU longer than just the day or two they predicted though. Sandra misses her children, and they have to be 14 to go in and see her. I took in a picture for her to tape to the bed. Maybe they will be nice and let us take the kids in one at a time for a couple of minutes each. I know that will pick up her spirits. I will update tomorrow with any new news regarding Sandra's recovery. (Tammy - sister)
