I had my 2nd and final appointment with my surgeon today. Next stop is my sleep study test on December 19th, then surgery. I was told I would most likely get scheduled for January, which is exactly when I want this. Christmas ususally turns out to be very stressful for me as it is, I can't imagine recuperating w/that stress. I also started a new job in July and I have to be there 6 months before I can use any vacation time, and since I need to get paid while I'm out, I need to wait until at least the middle of January for my vacation time to kick in. I feel really great just knowing that I am going to have this done. January can't get here fast enough.

Hi Kelly! Congrats on your decision to go forward with WLS! About the plastic surgery...if your insurance is covering WLS, check to see what it says about 'reconstructive surgery'...my insurance (back in 1992) had a clause that said something to the effect of, 'cosmetic surgery covered to correct defect caused by covered surgery'...in other words, since a surgery caused the loose skin (tummy tuck), and the loose skin caused discomfort (got infections on my c-section scars), THEN it was covered! So, check your insurance...but wait to do ANY type of plastic surgery until your weight has stablized for at least a year!! AND document EVERY THING!! Take pix of rashes, infections, what ever!! And don't forget the 'emotional' stress...it's worth alot in terms of 'insurance coverage'!! :) Best wishes!

I have periodically over the past several months come to this sight to view before and after pictures of bariatric patients. It just amazed me at the transformations of all of these people. It gave me such inspiration to do this myself. I have been heavy my entire life and I can't imagine myself being slim, having energy etc. A little over a year ago, a good friend told me about this site and that she was contemplating having this surgery. (She is now 6 months post op and looking fantastic.) After viewing this sight, I decided I needed and wanted to do something about my weight. I put my referral in to Dr. Roy Cobean. 11 long months later, I had my first appointment with him and his team. I go next Wednesday 11/13/02 for my pre-op appointment with Dr. Cobean. I am hoping to have my surgery in January or February, schedule permitting. I am having this surgery because of my declining health status. I was recenty diagnosed with PCOS and because of this, I have become insulin resistant and am on glucophage. But my fears about the surgery is quite vain. Although I know the health factor is my #1 priority, I am worried about what I'll look like with all the extra skin. I recently watched a show on TLC and they showed a woman that had plastic surgery to remove her excess skin. The way she looked prior to the surgery was quite unsettling. I know I will not be able to afford plastic surgery. Does anyone have any words of encouragement?
