Well, I am now 5 and half months post-op and doing great. I am down about 75 pounds, and my doctor considers me a slow loser. For a while the slow loss was very frustrating, but I am starting to recognize a pattern after a few months so I am getting used to it. I have dropped from a size 26 to 16-18, so it is much more fun to look for clothes now. I exercise all the time - walking about 6-7 miles a day. I will be participating in the Avon 3-Day walk for Breast Cancer in October in Atlanta (60 miles), so I am getting ready for this event. I never thought I would be able to do an event like this, so I am very pleased with myself. I'm working on trying to become the active person that I always wanted to be when I was very heavy. I am thrilled that I had this surgery and do not have the first regret. I feel better, I look better, and my health is great! It's wonderful now, and I still need to lose about 65 pounds. What will it be like then???

2/4/02 Today I am 1 week post-op. WOW! It is hard to believe it is over. I am still recovering - a little weak and sore - but off all pain medication for 3 days now. It is amazingly difficult to get all the water, milk, and food into a 24 hr period. I can not accomplish it yet. But each day I do a little better. I have only had one bad day, so I have not had any regrets. I think I am down about 15 pounds from when I came home from the hospital. They pump you so full of IV fluids that I came home heavier than I went in. Thanks to all the wonderful, thoughtful people who sent me messages for a successful surgery. I think a hedge of prayer is what we all need when undergoing any type of surgery.

Hi Brenda, Sure hope your surgery went well. I'm proud someone can have their dream come true. I wish you the best. If you would like to keep in touch, please do so. I have had my surgery cancelled several times due to a freeze on the surgery at my hospital. I won't give up. Please let me know how you are. I'll keep you in our prayers. Your new friend, Gail

1/23/02 Yesterday I did all my preop testing, meeting with the surgeon, etc. Now I am excited, and not so scared. I also met 2 other ladies who are scheduled the same day, and next day. They were both lots of fun to talk to. It made me feel much better to meet some surgery buddies. Today I got an email from my angel, and although I do not know her, I have seen her at some of our WLS support groups. I am completely amazed by her - she has lost 450 pounds. She is an outgoing and exuberant lady, and I like her personality. If you are reading my profile prior to my surgery, please keep me in your prayers. Thanks!

Brenda, best wishes for your upcoming surgery. I had mine in November 2000, and I have never had a single regret. One thing that may help to remember is that the nervousness is over with when you wake up in the recovery room to your new life.

This is the first year that I have been able to make a New Year's Resolution to lose weight, and feel like I am going to be able to keep it. Only 26 days until my surgery. Somehow it does not really seem real. All my presurgical appointments begin on 1/14, so I guess it will begin to seem more like reality then. Today I visited the memorial webpage. It scares me a little to realize that sometimes things go wrong for people like me who have no other health problems. I pray I am making the right decision, and that I will be glad I went through with this.
