Dear Gail, I just read your profile. Thank you so much for sharing. It is sooo helpful to read other's journeys. I will have surgery 11/7/02 and can't thank people like you enough for having the courage to write your weights and tell about your family. I am in awe of your responsibilities having kids ranging from college to 1 1/2. I have 2 boys 16 and 17 and I worried about being there for them. You deserve a purple heart. The pictures were great too. Best wishes. I feel like I'm a friend of yours. Love, Carla

I am so glad to hear your doing well. I think 25lbs is great. Since our surgery day was the same, that's what I figure I would have lost by now. So was it as bad as you thought. I want to know all about it. Email me as soon as you feel up to it. I want to know every little detail. Happy Shrinking!!!!!

Hello everyone!!!!!! I made it!!!!!!!! It sounds so good to say. The surgery went smooth no complications. It lasted about three hours. I do not remember much afterwards. The only thing I do remember is that the med pump was not working. The alarm kept going off, The pain was getting stronger and stronger. I kept crying out loud. They just kept telling me push the button. I kept telling them I was hurting, or I thought I was .Later my son told me that I was crying but I did not say anything. When I started screaming out He told me he became upset. My daughter and him made the nurse call the doctor. He stopped the pump and put me on shots every three hours. It kept me out all the next day. I barely remember my leak test. My daughter told me I got on the gurney by myself. She said I insisted on no help. I do not remember this, It seems they all had a good laugh. She said I did it very gracefully although I did cry out a time or two, but did in fact do it by myself. Thank God the test showed no leaks. What it did show was the opening out of the pouch at the intestines was almost swollen shut I was NPO until Friday night and then only ice chips. Saturday I had my first meal. Clear liquids 1oz chicken broth, 1oz diet lemonade, 1oz coffee, 1oz lemon jello. This was my diet that I was discharged home to on Monday afternoon. Dr. said he wanted to give the opening a chance to heal on its own. You would think that not eating I would lose weight, well when I went back to the Dr. on Tuesday I had only lost 5 pounds. I was in shock. The Dr. said don’t worry my insides were very swelled they did not like being messed with. He must have been right. Its been 14 days and I am down 25 pounds. Being at my moms all this time has really spoiled me. I could really get used to a life of leisure. Instead when I got home I got one child off to University of Alabama, one child off to Faulkner State, and one brand new freshman in high school, and the two little ones back home. Talk about a whirl wind week. Sorry it was so long in reporting. Thank you so much for all the good wishes. I will try and reply soon. Hugs , GAIL

Gail, I guess by now you are at home and losing weight. I hope you are doing well. The reason I didn't come see you in the hospital was because the doctor's canceled my surgery. They said I was too high risk and they didn't think I would survive the recovery. The worst thing is that I didn't find it out until the morning of surgery. I was there at 7:30 like I was supposed to be. I had my name band on and was about to go to the pre-op area when a nurse told me that my surgery had been canceled. I was devastated to say the least. I cried for 3 days straight. I'm getting a second opinion in Birmingham. I would like to know how you are getting along. Please update soon. You are in my prayers.
