7/8/02 None of this ever goes smoothly, does it! Friday I had my pre op testing. Late Friday afternoon I get the call that my potassium is high. High? What does that mean? Well, it could mean my kidneys are starting to shut down. Oh great! Even more reason to have this surgery except doing surgery with high potassium could lead to heart failure. But maybe it's a false high, so this morning I go to my pcp and have another blood test but they won't get the results until tommorrow morning. Great - I'm suppose to have surgery the day after. Can you say "worthless at work" I'm a basket case. On the positive side I spoke to my mother and told her I was having surgery and she was very positive. Not that I expected anything else but it's always nice to have that confirmed. Positive thoughts. Low potassium, low potassium. How's that for a mantra!!!

My best wishes for your surgery. May all of your sweetest dreams come true. I had an open rny in June of 2001 and have lost 102 lbs. I am also diabetic and was taking a lot of pills and giving myself 5 shots a day too. Since the surgery I have been taken off ALL of my meds. Sure hope this procedure helps you too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
