Hi Bill, I am a pre-op. I am having my surgery on June 12. I have done lots of research going into this surgery, so I feel very informed. But, I'm sure that I will have many more questions afterwards. I read your comment and could see that you are depressed about all of this. Please remember, I am pre-op, so my opinion my not count for much, but I wanted to reassure you that everything will be alright. It is going to take time. I've read many people on here talking about eating normal, and eating whatever they want. Everyone is different, but you will get there someday. It may take longer for you, but you can do it. Try to remember, you did this for your kids, and your health. I'm hoping that in a couple months, when you've lost alot of weight, and are starting to eat more 'normal', then you will not feel as regretful as you do now. Good job on the weight loss so far. I wish you the best. Good luck.

Hi William, I had an open VBG Monday April 30. A week and 1/2 ago. I saw your message and wanted to respond, you sound down.I think a big part of this is a positive attitude and taking it a little at a time. I'm 41 yrs old and weighed 316 when I 1st went to see my Dr. I have been diabetic 5 yrs and high blood pressure over 6 yrs. My goal was to lose down to under 200 lbs, but also get off the medications. I havent had any medication since the day before my surgery. My sugar and pressure are both normal. My Dr.is very serious and straitforward. He doesnt joke around, but tells you exactly what you will have to do. At each step of the way he gives detailed instructions and I have followed his orders strictly. He also removed my gallbladder during surgery. I started on liquids the 3rd day,(2nd day after surgery). He sent me home with instructions to continue liquid diet until 9 days, then I started on soft food. Some of the things he listed were cream of wheat, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, mashed or baked potatoes, greenpeas, carrots, squash, asparagus and cauliflower. All the vegetables are cooked. Applesauce, bananas, and other pureed fruit. Yogurt, pasta, including macaroni, noodles, spaghetti. Fish, chicken, turkey all baked, broiled or grilled, no fried. Diced up in small pieces. In addition you still have the liquid stuff which included sugar free jello, broth, and sugar free popsicles. I had my 1st food on Tuesday this week. It was oatmeal. He restricts us to 2 ozs at a time. I was surprised that it really did fill me up. Later that day I had 2 ozs mashed potatoes, I made with chicken broth for added flavor. That night I had asparagus, which I love anyway. I felt so stuffed. The next day I still felt kind of full, I know that sounds crazy. So I had Carnation Instant Breakfast (sugar free). It is really good and goes down easy. It gives you vitamins and stuff you need that you dont get when you dont eat food. I have been using a liquid vitamin (centrum). It does taste kind of nasty. I think I might switch to the chewable kind. He gives you a choice. I hope I have been some small help to you. I will get further instructions Monday May 14 when I go for my 2 week check-up and removal of the stitches. So far it looks like I've lost 16 lbs since surgery. I feel really good and am very glad that I did this for my health and well being, not to mention my teenage daughter, since I am a single parent. I am also very happy about being off the meds. Hope you feel better, keep your chin up. God Bless you, Leah Davis
