My story is a lot like other peoples, I'm sure. I wasn't overweight as
a teenager, but I wasn't one of those tiny girls, either. I guess I had an
athletic build. I guess I eat a lot of the "wrong" things. I don't like a lot
of meats. For instance, I don't eat steak or seafood, but I'm trying to.
I got married at 19 years old, andit seems like I just started gaining weight
like crazy between 19 and 24 and it's only gotten worse since then.
Also, in this time I would stop having periods and was diagnosed with PCOS.
After being married for five years and taking fertility meds, I got pregnant
and had a son. After having my first child, my periods became regular. Two and
a half years later, I got pregnant again and had another son.
I've thought about having WLS for years now. Actually before I found out
I was pregnant with my oldest son, I had an appointment for a consultation.
That was 7 years ago, at least. I'm now ready to try again. I went to a seminar
held by Dr. Voellinger and one held by Dr. Fernandez out of Winston Salem.
I have an appointment with Dr. F in September.
I get so very excited to come to OH and look at the before and after pictures
and think that "that could be me!"
I haven't been a normal size in so long that I can't even imagine what I would look like.
I've been told by manypeople that "they wouldn't have surgery to lose weight."
Obviously, they've never been morbidly obese. I've tried most diets out there.
I've done WW, I've been on phentermine. I can lose weight, I just can't seem to
keep it off. I don't look at this as an easy way out. Personally, I don't think it's an
'easy' choice to make. If it were so easy, I would have done it YEARS AGO. I just
feel like I have no other choice. I'm 31 years old and I weigh like 271lbs. Now is the
time that I have to do something. I look forward to talking to you guys. I'm
