Ok Well, I'm Alison and I'm 20 years old.  I've been obese pretty much my whole life and probably have been dieting since elementary school.  I've tried all kinds of work out programs and eating programs (like Zone diet, Slim fast, Curves...) as well as lots of diet pills but nothing has ever stuck.  Then the summer before my senior year of high school I went on a new very strict diet and exercise plan (which included appetite suppressants) and lost almost 70lbs in the course of 4 months.  I was extatic.  But then I started to slip as I entered college and as I entered into a very long and emotionally stressful relationship (which ended a few months ago).   By the time I was entering my 2nd year of college (at a new school now) I had gained over 100lbs since that first major lost and by the begining of 2010 I was at an all time high of 327lbs.  Not only was this yet again an embarrassing failure to lose weight but all the added weight started to take a tole on me.  At 20 years old just walking up a couple flights of stairs to get to my classes would have me sweating, gasping for breath, dizzy, and sore.  My health was on a downward spiral.

Apparently I wasn't the only one noticing how troubling my weight gain was becoming.  In August of this year my dad came to me one day and asked me if I wanted to look into weight loss surgery.  I was shocked to say the least.  But I guess at this point it really didn't seem anymore drastic than going on the way I am.  I didn't want to die young, I wanted to be happy and healthy and live a long life.  So that August I began my journey.  When I first met with Dr. Moe I was interested in the band but after a couple months of researching I was leaning towards the RnY.  Then after having a discussion with my doctor we agreed upon the Vertical sleeve gastrectomy and I'm very happy with my decision.  So now here I am,I got my surgery date, it's 1/11/11

Now I'm just waiting to embark upon my journey to a healthier happier new me!  But until that day comes I'm doing my best to start implementing healthier habits and dropping some pre-op weight.  I hope that the OH community will be a key helper in my journey to better health.
