Dec 22, 2008

Wow, I didn't realize how long it has been since I last posted.  So much has happened and changed.

First, I currently weigh 228 lbs.  I wear a size 18 (no W!) pants and XL shirts (still some 1X too).  My measurements are as follows:

Area          Pre-op          Now          Lost

Arm            17.5"             14.5"           3.0"
Chest         47.5"             44.0"           2.5"
Waist         42.0"             37.5"           4.5"
Hips           51.5"             46.5"           5.0"
Thigh         31.5"             28.5"           3.0"
Neck         17.75"           15.75"          2.0"

Ring size    10.5            9.0

I can now sit with my legs crossed comfortably.  I can sit in any chair without feeling stuffed into it.  My feet very rarely hurt anymore.  My second chin is almost completely gone.  My husband can hug me comfortably.

The not so great: I am still having issues with meat/eggs/dense foods but that will hopefully be changing soon.  I am going to have the endoscope procedure done for the stricture the doctor thinks I have.  This is also supposed to help with the horrible acid reflux I am having as well which would be nice.  I still struggle with getting all my water in but that is getting better each day.  There are not alot of foods I like anymore so it is a struggle to eat.  Finding protein sources is very hard and I still don't get enough so I know my blood work (which I just had drawn this past week) is not going to be good.  Vitamins, ugh, I am working on.

The work in progress: I am still learning how much I can eat (very very little) at any given time.  My husband and I eat out alot but now we share.  Most of the time he has me get whatever it is I want to eat then decides that will be enough good or if he needs to supplement it with something else on the side.  It actually works well for us but we still over-estimate how much I am actually going to eat.  It is kind of weird but nice not to be the one who eats the most. We just bought a WII and I have to say I really like it.  My husband even plays with me sometimes which is a hoot.  I am working on getting some form of exercise every day and just trying to be more active in general.  It is hard sometimes when I don't have any energy but I am trying to just make myself do something.

So, overall, I am extremely happy with my weight loss.  I will be very happy if the endoscope helps with my eating but if not, I will find a way to get what I need.  My next goal is to lose a total of 60 lbs by New Years Eve which is only 8 more lbs (and will put me at 220, yay!!).  I don't love my sleeve yet but I am liking it more as the time goes by.  I will post again once my 3 month surgiversary is here.  Until then, have a wonderful holiday season!!  (and thanks for reading!)

Sunday, Oct. 19th--Finally home

Oct 19, 2008

Well, it has been interesting to say the least.  Let me try to go thru this day by day.

Monday, Oct. 13th: I did the pre-op Citrate of Magnesium (the entire bottle!) and stopped eating/drinking anything at 6pm.  I have everything ready for tomorrow.  I am really excited but nervous too.

Tuesday, Oct. 14th: We went to the hospital at 6am and went right into the prep area.  Dwayne and Mom stayed with me until I was given the anesthesia and taken into surgery.  The remainder of the day is a hugh blur with only memories of partially waking and having alot of pain in my ribcage area.  I did get up and walk in the evening but only briefly.  Morphine is pretty good stuff! lol  (Weight before surgery 275lbs)

Wednesday, Oct. 15th: Woke up still feeling out of it but at least I knew what was going on mostly.  Got up and was weighed-286.2lbs.  Ouch!  Went to have the leak test done right away which was nice.  Unfortunately, it didn't go well.  When I drank the contrast it went down to my esophagus (?) and made it about 1/2 inch into my stomach and stopped!  Apparently, my stomach had swollen shut completely.  So, I was told I would be on IV only (No water, ice, nada) and just to walk.

Thursday, Oct. 16th: Up at 6am again (blah, I am tired) and back to be weighed--287.5ibs .  Walk, sit down, sleep, wake, walk, sit down, sleep, watch tv, walk..... all day long (until midnight when I could go to sleep).  No water, ice, nada...just IV (and stupid drain which is gross)

Friday, Oct. 17th: Up at 6am and weighed--282.5 thank goodness!!  PA came in to see me then said they would be taking me back for another leak test.  CROSS FINGERS that I will pass this time.  3 1/2 days with no water, ice, nada sucks.  Go down and  I PASS.  I finally get ice chips and some water.  Go down fine with no nausea or anything.  I cross my fingers that I could maybe go home but NO, denied, I have to stay until I can keep regular clear liquids down and they won't give me those until tomorrow.  So, another day in the hospital.  Thank goodness all the nurses and aides are great.

Saturday, Oct. 18th: Up at 6 and weighed--276.5 lbs ().  Got to have my first jello at 9am (yucky orange) but it was still so nice to have something!  Doc comes in at 11 and removes the drain and tells me I can go home today!!  Finally!  I was able to check out and it was so good to be home.

Apparently, the surgery went really well.  The doctor did the procedure and then used the bougie and passed thru the stomach to make sure there were no obstructions or anything else in the way or out of place.  All good.  My body on the other hand got pissed and decided to swell up alot.  Consequently, my poor stomach just shut up tight.  I am doing well now although I still have quite a bit of swelling and still a fair amount of gas but it is going down quite fast I think.  My weight this morning (Sunday, Oct. 19th) is 266lbs.  Even with the issues I had I am still glad I did the surgery.

3 weeks from today (at this time) I will be coming out of surge

Sep 23, 2008

I think it is pretty amazing to think that I will be at the hospital for my surgery in just 3 weeks.  I am still amazingly excited and not nervous at all yet.  The only time I experienced any nervousness was when I read on the main forum about a lady who passed away recently apparently due to complications from RnY surgery.  It is definitely something to be aware of and I do have some worry about it but I just focus on the positive.  I am going to write a letter to my husband, my Mom, and my brother just in case though.  It is better to be prepared just in case.

I have my pre-op surgical consult with Dr. Blackstone on Sept. 29th.  My husband is going to go with me because he has questions he wants answered (he is worried).  I have a few questions but nothing major.  Well, time to go for now.  I will do another post sometime before surgery.

Aug 24, 2008

Well, I have my surgery date!!    I am so excited and even a little nervous but that is ok.  I will be sleeved on Oct. 14th, 2008.  It is still pretty unreal and probably won't feel too real until it gets closer.  I have my all day pre-surgery seminar on Sept. 10th (17 days!) where they will go thru all the preop info as well as what to expect, etc. after the surgery.  So exciting...

School starts tomorrow and I am looking forward to that.  It will help the time to go faster and I am looking forward to my classes this semester (except Trig ).  Oh well, gotta have it...

So, I am off to get my things together for my early classes.
