I was born in Palm Beach, Florida. My mom then took me back to the Bronx (NY) for a while until we moved to Rochester, NY (western/upstate) where I spent most of my life. I have no desire whatsoever to move back there, or anywhere else cold.
I am engaged to the most wonderful man in the entire world...Don't bother launching an argument in favor of someone that you know- even though I'll listen politely, nod, and smile, I just won't believe that it's possible.I moved to Philadelphia, PA in 1989 to attend Temple University and I have been in Philadelphia ever since. It is a great city; very affordable and fun. I also like the proximity to NYC and Washington, DC --> places where I have friends! Ultimatley I plan to live in Central/costal California or maybe Baja California, Mexico. This would also require an amount of money that does not seem readily attainable to me at this point in time, but, I will make it happen!
I have struggled with my weight my ENTIRE life. I was always the cute chubby kid who was 10 pounds overweight. I managed to stay just a little overweight until I was in high school because I was very active and a competitive swimmer. Once I reached high school and decided to be a "girlie girl", I stopped swimming and threw my whole body out of control. I am convinced I ruined my metabolism and I continued to eat like I still burned a million calories a day although I was burning none.
The weight increased year after year, I probably added 10 pounds a year until I had blown up to 291 pounds. On a 5'2" frame, that is a ton of weight. I decided I'd had enough and went on Weight Watchers losing 82 pounds in one year and getting SO close to being in the "hundreds" that I couldn't wait...so what do I do, instead of losing those last 8 poinds, I have gained back weight and blown up to 250. I can't take anymore, I have tried a million diets since my teens and none have worked. I am tired of fighting such an uphill battle.
I initially wanted to get the Lap Band, but the surgeon I saw said that he refused to do the surgery any more because it is not as effective and because he has issues with a surgical procedure that puts money into a Pharma companies pocket because they skew the data and offer incentives to physicians who push the band. As I work in the Pharmaceutical field, I know this to be true and decided to commit to the standard RNY.
This is my journey and I will make the best of it. I have everything a person could want except for a normal weight and the potential for a long life. I have a beautiful house, a wonderful man, the best two animals a person could want (no kids - Thank goodness), a great job, a loving family, and amazing friends. I hope that with this surgery, I will have the little push I need to really have it all.
