My story is like most everyone else's out there. I was a heavy teenager, but was always active with sports and outdoor stuff, but after high school ended it seemed to just go downhill from there. I did all the fad diets and lost some and gained more, pretty typical. Then when I was about 25, I discovered that I LOVED working out. I lost about 60 lbs and then got pregnant with my daughter (hmmm, I wonder if the two have anything to do with each other??). After my daughter I just kept gaining and gaining and gaining. As a single parent with a small child and more than full time job, doesn't leave a lot of time for the gym. I was really close with my family docter and told him that I was thinking about surgery. I had no medical issues at all, no diabetes, no high blood pressure...nothing!! He was my biggest cheerleader and was the driving force behind me getting this done. We did regular appointments for about a year to document the gain/loss trends and they submitted a referral to a bariatric surgeon in November of 2008. In December of 2008 my referral was approved (not necessarily the surgery). I went to see Dr. Krahn in January of 2009. After all the blood work, pysch tests and so on, my lap band surgery was finally approved in March 2009. I had to reschedule my original surgery date of May 1st due to the death of my grandmother but got the new date scheduled for May 22. So far I have lost 61 lbs and my goal is to lose 100 by my 1 year anniversary!! I have a wonderful fiance that loves me very, very much and is very supportive of my choices and journey. When I first told him about the surgery he told me, "Why do you need that? You are so beautiful already. I guess I better hit the gym because I gotta look hot for my super hot girlfriend." He is one of those guys that can eat anything and everything and not gain an ounce. We are super in love and everyday he tells me how much he loves me and how beautiful I am. Gosh, that is so good hear and is such incentive for me to keep doing my best.
