6 mths post op

Mar 08, 2009

I am so thankful for this tool! Today is my 6 mth surgeryversary!!  Down 93lbs! It felt so nice to go to Penneys the other day and buy a size 16 jean and a xl top :) Beats a tight 24 and a 4x top! Something our Penneys doesn't even carry. Cannot wait to see what the next 6mths bring.
Gall bladder surgery went well. Bruderer checked everything out while he was in there and said all looked great. A little sore but nothing compared to the RNY.
These next 6 mths my goal is to get more into exercise and start journeling my foods.
Happy Spring!! It has to be on its way!!

Gall Bladder

Mar 04, 2009

Found out what this pain has been all about! My ultrasound came back negative for gall stones..they did find some mild diffused fat infiltration on my liver though..which suprised me because this wasnt a problem at the time of surgery...
Then I had a Hida Scan (got pretty nauseus and crampy for a moment) they told me a normal ejection fraction was either 30 or 35%  Mine was 0%! So no wonder all the discomfort lately..So we are heading to Bismarck and Dr. B will take her out on Friday afternoon. Feel most comfortable going to him..Judy also said he will check everything from the RNY while he is in there.

4mths post op! Hair loss has started..

Jan 18, 2009

All is great!! Today I weigh 216. Im getting so excited to see the 100's !! I need to start exercising again..Ive been very poor to do that. Also need to make my protein more of a priority as Ive been slacking in taking my supplements daily.  Still haven't been sick or anything :) Although I think I have had a couple minor dumping episodes. Hair is starting to fall out some but I have expected it..Hope it doesn't last long. Thats about it for now. Hope you all are doing well!!

3 month update

Dec 11, 2008

I can't believe its already been three months!!  I have to say everything is going really smoothly so far. I started out at 296 and 288 the day of surgery..Not sure what I weigh now as I am in my second stall One day Im 228 the next 233 the next 230 and so on..It's very frustrating but I know it will pass eventually.
Most days I could care less if I ate and other days I enjoy food. I think I should probably start eating more if anything.
I have been lucky and have not vomited or dumped so far!!! Will post some updated photos soon.
Have a great Christmas everyone!

It's been a month!

Oct 11, 2008

I cant believe how fast the first month went! I only lost a lb for what felt like an eternity but lost 5 more lbs this past week..thankfully!  So month ones loss was 23 lbs!! I read of people who lose faster but I figure our beginning weight needs to be takin in to consideration etc. Hoping I do not have a stall for awhile now as it was incredibly frustrating.

Joined a gym! Wow am I out of shape!! I am going to try my hardest to get there 5 days a week.

Getting used to being back to work..its a little wild getting myself and two girls ready in the am's but we are adjusting.

So far I have been lucky and have not dumped or vomited. Need to get better at getting all my protein in every day..most days I do well but am out of my iced tea flavor protein and the others I have just are not that good. Take Centrum chewables, Vitamin C, Pepcid, Folbee and Citrical petites.  Starting the calcium today..Ive been a little scared of swallowing what doesnt look like a petitie pill to me! Hopefully it goes down smooth.

Thats it for now..hope everyone is doing great!

Two week check up

Sep 25, 2008

Had my checkup in Bismarck on September 25th. It was a bit frustrating to drive 8 hours total for an appt that consisted of getting weighed, having my incisions looked at and being handed a prescription for Folbee..That was it? All that driving for that..
I still have lost that same 17lbs..have been in a stall for well over a week and Im only 18 days post op . Dont get me wrong..I love that I lost that weight so fast but this stall is very aggravating. The Dr. even said people don't typically stall this fast but not to worry..I can't help but worry..its hard to not be eating etc and nothing is happening.

My RNY experience.

Sep 18, 2008

Wanted to share my experience with you all as well as have a place to be able to look back on it and remember what I was given and not take it for granted :)

I checked in to Medcenter One at 12:01 am on Monday September 8th. Went to my room and was weighed first (im glad I can look forward to weigh ins for a bit ;) Then it took them 4 tries for blood which has never happened. Got my Iv and first shot of Heparin in the stomach. Had two shots a day until I went home as well to prevent blood clots. They didn't hurt at all but a couple days after discharge I had great big bruises where they were given. Then I tried to sleep. Nurse came in at 4ish then at 6 I was wide awake as I new they were coming soon.
About 630 I was taken to pre op. Quite the busy little place. Nerves were finally setting in. Got my shot of I dont care medicine from the "bartender" then when we got to the OR I asked the "bartender" for one more! Which he kindly gave me :) Helped a ton! Next thing I remember is waking in the OR and being in ALOT of pain. The gas had settled in my left shoulder and back I think I remember whining a bit at this point. I dont rememer PACU at all. When I got to my room I could barely see my Mom..she was really blurry and I was tired. Pain hit again but they were quick to get that morphine button pushed. I have to say the first day was way more painful then I expected but everytime it hurt I pushed that wonderful PCA pump and I was back to sleep. Slept all of Monday and most of Tuesday. Could get up in my room a bit. Felt like really sore heavy pulling on my sides. Silly me didnt push the PCA like I could on Tuesday night and barely slept. Wednesday the catheter came out..I missed it! Especially when I had to get up at night. Got to take a shower(with a chair thank god) and soak off my big dressing. Took a few walks in the hall. Felt good other then being tired and extremely sore.
I really didnt drink much while in the hospital..that first drink of ice cold way to sweet juice didnt feel very good..had a few sips of warm decaf tea..liked that the best.
Thursday morning I was more then ready to go home. Was still really sore and tired but new I would be more comfortable at home. Nervous about getting my JP drain out. They came in with my discharge papers about 9:15am. Nurse removed my Iv and pulled out the drain. Cant say it hurt but it was a very strange uncomfortable feeling. They gave me 2 Demerol for the 4hr drive home thankfully.

Now 10 days later I am feeling better and drinking more everyday. Still have a lot of soreness and a tugging feeling in my left side but otherwise good. Not really eating much yet but it will come in time.
Im down 16lbs in 10 days 27 since my Preop August 18th!! Cant beat that!!
