Two week follow up

Jan 12, 2011

Two week follow up with surgeon today.  Everything is good....down 13 pounds.  Still on full liquids another two weeks....sigh...how boring.  I will do what they say because I want to be sure everything heals right.  On another note, I have also been two weeks without smoking...YAY.
Cant believe its been two weeks....some days seems shorter than that, but for the most part it feels like its been longer, probably because I feel so good.  Anyway!

Oh yeah...we are OVER the snow in East Tenn!  lol

1 week out

Jan 05, 2011

It has been a week since surgery, and I am doing remarkably well.  Physically, I can do nearly everything I need to do--no heavy lifting obviously--and am not tired or nauseated.  Im hitting the mark for daily fuid and protein intake.  The scale says I have lost about 11 pounds, I know this is fluid, but the smaller number on the scale was encouraging.
I have had a couple of instances of intense 'head hunger' but for the most part am not interested in food.  Looking forward to going back to see my surgeon next week for two week follow up.

Praying 2011 brings more peace, love and happiness!!

First phase of the journey is complete

Oct 03, 2010

Hard to believe, but I have finally managed to complete ALL the requirements to submit my information to the insurance company.  I faxed the final info to my surgeon last Wednesday, now I get to sit and wait.  I feel confident it is a slam dunk, but you never know.  Hopefully I will know something this week or next..........

Been awhile...

Sep 15, 2010

Its been a little while since I have written, not a whole lot going on regarding the weight loss surgery until today.  Today was my last visit with my PCP for my six month diet...and I am doing the psych eval Monday, and will be ready to submit to insurance.  Just saying those words makes me a little nervous...=)  I cant believe six months have passed and I have jumped thru (hopefully) all the insurance hoops.  Looking back I think part of this six month diet is to give you time to really think about this life changing decision, and to weed out some who can not follow a plan and get all this stuff done.  Which, by the way is why I did not follow thru with this two years ago.  But then, I wanted the Lap band, and I believe with all my heart, that was not the way i was meant to go.  Ive been praying as I go along this journey, and want the Lord to open these doors for me, because I know if He shuts one, I can't force it open.
Anyway...hopefully my next post will be about being submitted to insurance or maybe even approval!!!...=)

Sad realities

Jul 17, 2010

Tonite I saw mention of the OH Memorial board in a thread and went to read it.....What harsh realities there are.  While granted not everyone that has been memorialized on that board passed because of complications from their surgery, many have.  And as I looked at their profiles, they all have one thing in common...they posted about the excitement and hope this surgery can bring.  It gave me a real WHOA moment, and even more to think about.  My consult is Tuesday and I am SO looking forward to it, but the risks will also be on my mind more than ever!

Moving along....

Jun 18, 2010

I went to my surgeon's seminar this week, and it was great.  I thought I knew alot about WLS because I have read and read and read!  But the presentation was great and the surgeon was very personable.
I got my referral to him from my PCP, and scheduled a sleep study to help with insurance requirements.  My consultation is not until the middle of July, but if I have learned nothing else, Ive learned time does move on!  I am excited to see what this journey brings!

The Journey

Jun 13, 2010

I started this journey two years ago and gave up because of the complicated insurance requirements, and seemingly unfriendly surgeon and his staff.  Two years later I am 10 pounds heavier, and starting this process again.   I have since found a new surgeon, and am three months into the pre-op requirements.  Some days I want this more than anything, some days I think no way!

I am going to another seminar/support meeting Tuesday and soooo looking forward to it.  I have one friend saying go for it...and the rest of my family/friends insist I am not 'big enough'  My BMI is 40!  40% of me is fat...

If all goes well, I will have the requirements complete in time for my 40th birthday.  What a wonderful gift to myself!
