2 Big Events this week

Apr 03, 2013

Well this week brought two huge victories for me. The first was entering onederland... the second was visiting with our friends and spending time with their 14 month old son. If you have read my earlier post then you know that I was scared about not keeping up with kids and babies. Well, I think I wore little James out the other day. I didn't get winded or exhausted. I just started crying while I was playing.

First of Many

Jan 31, 2013

Tonight I went for my one week (and one day) follow up with Dr. Heider. I can not express how much I respect this man and his entire team. Thats what they are, a team, yes he preforms the surgery and does all the M.D. work but I could not have done this without MIchelle his PA, Deniese the RN, Amanda the NUT, Bobbie with Ins, Marsha the counselor, and there are several more that I know I am forgetting. OK I need to get back to my story. HE was very pleased with my weight loss since starting the pre-op diet.

When I began this process 3 weeks ago I had a BMI of 41. Today I checked in with with my team with a BMI of 37! This number makes me very happy.

Decisions and Dates

Dec 28, 2012

I made the decision to have surgery on October 9th after a visit with my PCP for my yearly physical. I have been with my PCP since I was 15 so to date 17 years. She and I had been on a roller coaster of weight loss meds and other suggested diets. I will never forget asking her who to go to for the surgery. I barely had the question out of my mouth when she said Dr. Heider. She told me to Google him and to attend a workshop. She told me that she would jump through any hoop that the ins. co. put us through to get me approved.

That afternoon I did as she said and looked up Dr. Heider. He had a seminar in just over a week. I went home that evening with a conversation to have with my husband. It really did not take much convincing. He told me that he wanted to go to the seminar and that my safety was his main concern.

After the seminar which fully convinced my husband that this was not a quack science and that I would be in good hands. After I made my first appointment things began moving very fast. We learned that I would not have to endure a 3 or 6 month medical weight loss program and what we thought was going to be a 6 to 9 month ordeal turned into a rollercoaster ride.

So from October 9th, 2012 I am having surgery on January 23rd, 2013.
