8/3/07 - I got to the hospital on time (5:45 am) and things went pretty quickly.  They had me get dressed in the gown and lay on the gurney, then I visited my husband and mom until they took me to the preping room where I layed there and visited my husband and mom some more, each of us crying and saying "I love you".  Then the nurse came in and tried to put in my IV, I could tell my IV was messed up when the nurse had to "float it in", but didn't want to get poked again when I wasn't going to be awake in a few minutes anyway.  They wheeled me in the operating room and had me sit up so they could place a big back brace thing under me.  The anestigiologist started the night-night juice and swoosh, I was out!  After surgery I didn't want to be poked again and it only hurt when they put something in it, so I decided to just keep the IV the way it was, I was leaving the next day anyway.  They wanted me to drink/eat 50ml per hour of either water, sugar free sorbet, broth, or protein drink....I didn't want any of it, but forced myself to do it about every one and a half or two hours.  I got up and walked around the corridor about 5 times the day of my surgery.

8/4/08 - I was hoping to leave at 10am but wasn't able to because my blood count was low, and they wanted to make sure I wasn't aneimic and didn't have an infection.  The nurse was very nice but she tried to put some medication in my IV when I was talking on the phone and it hurt so bad I handed the phone to my husband and screamed like I was in labor!  I wanted to kill her! That was the last time I was going to let them use that IV, no matter what!  I walked around about 7 times that day and at 6pm we were outa there!

8/5/07 - For the next few days I was in and out of bed, walked around the house, and took the liquid vicodin the doctor had prescribed.  I love the big elastic band they gave me to wrap around myself when I get up and around (the huge back support thing they put on me in the surgery room) my mom and friend call it my corset .  I ended up getting a yeast infection from the anti-biotics they gave me at the hospital, doesn't that figure??  I had a hard time drinking the 4 oz. of protein drink five times a day, so I just tried to get down at least 50g per day.  Even though my band wasn't tightened yet I still felt full pretty quickly.  I quit taking the vicodin on 8/7/07, I didn't like feeling drugged.

8/8/07 - My husband and I went to Wal-Mart and the grocery store, and boy, was I tired afterwards.

8/9/07 - I could tell I had done way too much the day before, I went back to the vicodin twice.

8/10/07 - We went to a friends to visit for a few hours I felt good all evening.

8/11/07 - Okay, when the doctor says to take the Milk-of-Magnesia every day.....LISTEN TO HIM.  Just because you aren't eating anything doesn't mean that you don't have waste.  All I can say is OWWW! That night we went out to dinner.  It really upset me that my husband ordered for me, he ordered tasteless chicken breast and cottage cheese (I had about 1 oz. of the chicken and 2 oz. cottage cheese), and I wanted the broiled chicken sandwich.   I knew that I couldn't have bread, but all I wanted was the middle of the tomato and the parmisian off the bread on my chicken (not to mention it was $1 cheaper).  I had no problem with the chicken or cottage cheese.  We made it through dinner and then went to the movies.  By the end of the movie it felt like my port was hitting my ribs and I was uncomfortable all the way home.

8/12/07 - I wasn't sore when I woke up, and felt pretty good all day.  I ran away to a girl-friends house to visit that evening, it was so nice to get away for a while.  I appreciate my husband staying home from work with me, but my kids were driving me bonkers  !!!  I tried laying on my side to read when I went to bed that night, it felt okay for a few minutes, then it started burning on my left side (where my port is).  It felt like my skin had been burned from the upper left incision to the incision above my belly-button.  When I layed on my back I felt a bit better (unless I moved).

8/13/07 - When I got up the burning feeling was back.  Called the doctors office twice and left messages for the nurse to call me back as I was having issues with my port.  Finally just before lunch I called again and told them that I just had bariatric surgery and felt I was having complications, and needed to talk to someone!  She immediately transfered me to the nurse who stated that it was normal and to take the vicodin.  I still don't think it's normal but the burning isn't as bad when I take the pain meds.  I stayed in bed most of the day (watching TV with my mom) and got up to go to my mother-in-laws stamp party (I promised her I would and when I tried to back out she promised me we wouldn't be doing jumping jacks or sit-ups).  I was hurting again by the time we went home.

8/14/07 - So today is the first day I've felt like getting on my computer.  So far I'm feeling okay, and haven't taken any pain meds.  Tomorrow I'm supposed to go shopping for the kids school clothes and then I'm supposed to go to the doctors to get my first fill in my band.  I don't feel like I've lost anything since my surgery, but am hoping that I've lost something!
