Hi,
My name is Ava. I had gastric by-pass surgery on 7/2/07. Things seemed to go fine until that evening and into the next morning.
By the next morning my doctor had to take me back into surgery, my stomach that was cut away developed blood clots and poured out from my stomach through a hole that broke through, it then spilled into my pelvic area.
I spent almost a week in ICU and was on a respirator for about three days. I spent 10 days in the hospital and I am still trying to recooperate. It has been a nightmare, I have lost over 60 pounds, but it was from being so sick.
I still have trouble with vomiting after eating, even though I have anti-nausea meds..
I start a new job in about a week and am afraid of what to pack for lunch, in fear that I never know what is going to come up!!
I know that many have a great experience, but this was the closest I have ever been to dying, I hope that who ever considers this surgery, really knows the dangers that are involved and that you could even lose your life.
