It's time!

Mar 31, 2009

Oh my my, how long it has been since I posted. With my daughter being gone all winter, I've just been so lacking in umpf! However, I have been a very good girl, and have lost 23 lbs since October 31st, when I last saw my dietician. (No, I didn't do them.)
You see, I had 2 accidents before Christmas, so I knew that my driving in the wintertime would be a no-go. Since breaking my neck in an auto accident in 1986, I've been deathly afraid to drive in the snow and ice, especially on unfamiliar roads. Well, I had one of the accidents in Milwaukee, where my doctor is located, because I couldn't find the darned hospital. My daughter does my driving out of my familiar territory for me, and she'd driven me to my appointments in Milwaukee before. Anyways, that is as far as I got in preparation for surgery. Guess what? My daughter is coming back to town on April 7th !!!!  I can now proceed with getting set up for the meeting with my Dr. I haven't been able to see a "shrink" that will take Medicaid/Medicare for the psychological part of it, so I'm almost starting over from scratch, except that I've lost 23 lbs. since my last weigh in at the office. Yeah!  And...the best thing about it is that my AC1 is down to 6.5, and my blood pressure reading was 128/78 ! Know what I did to lose the weight?
I stopped drinking ANY TYPE OF SODA....PERIOD! I stopped drinking soda on the day of my last dietician appointment in Milwaukee...October 31st, 2008. Cold turkey, just stopped drinking my "IV, Cherry Pepsi" and I switched right over to Crystal Light, in the fruit flavors. I love it and I drink a ton more water than I was drinking before too. I don't get any cravings for soda, either, which has been a real shock for me, because before, I couldn't go a full day without my Cherry Pepsi. It was a family joke that I always had my "IV" along with me when going to visit friends and relatives, and it was so true. Now, I take a bottle of water, and if I want it, take a packet of Crystal Light out of my purse. I keep a baggie of several flavors, because I never know what flavor I'll be in the mood for.
I'm also getting more exercise, because I've had my daughter's Yorkie living with me since the beginning of November, when she found that she couldn't have pets at her new rental home. Oh well, her loss, my gain! I love having "Riley" with me, and he goes most places with me. He's not one of the tiniest Yorkie's, so I can't stash him in my purse or anything, but he loves to go bye bye with me.
Spring is a"here", sort of, and it's looking better all the time!
