Bechbum
I started my journey in 2003 when my weight spiked to 358lbs. I was motivated by seeing Sharon Osborn on t.v. and she had the lap band surgery done. I contacted my doctor and was referred to Dr.Gomez in Indianapolis. After jumping through the hoops I was denied for the lap band because my BMI was too high. Two years later my insurance changed and I tried again. After going through more education classes and doing more research I realized that the lap band was not the best route for me. I am a cheater and that is what brought my life to where it was. I needed something to make me more responsible for my actions and so I chose the Roux-n-Y. I was nervous about this procedure but prayed that if this was the right thing for me then God would make a way for my insurance to approve it for me. It only took 2 days to get an approval from my insurance. On November 26, 2007 at 7:30 a.m., my life changed and has only gotten better. I went into surgery at 5'3", weighing 323lbs. Now, 14 months later I have lost 147 pounds and I am happier and healthier then I have ever been in my life.
People ask me if I feel like I am missing out on things and I just laugh. I can breathe better, I can walk the beach, I can exercise, and most of all, can play with my grandchildren.......so how could I be missing out on things. Of course, they are talking about food, but I'm not missing out on that either. I'm not hungry and if something sounds good to me, I find a healthy alternative. Only thing I am missing out on is fat.....lots of it and I am not looking for it back.
Good luck to everyone on this new life journey and I hope you find the success and new freedom I have found in mine. God Bless each and everyone of you along the way.
