Six days post op

May 06, 2012

I made it to church this morning. Everyone was surprised to see me. I sat there and had a terrible thought: did I go today to worship or be seen. I think that I went to show everyone that I was alive and recovering and to say "Thank you" for their prayers.

As for my food cravings, they're getting better. I still want crunchy stuff to eat but I know that in a few weeks I can start introducing thinks that require chewing and go crunch. I can hold on until then.

More later.

I'm struggling today

May 04, 2012

I was told that I should not expect to be hungry for a year or so.  Well I'm not hungry but I am having cravings. Is this normal? I want chips, baked potatoes, steak, ice cream - anything I could get my hands on.  Surely I am not the only one dealing with this so soon after surgery.

How do I cope with this?

3 days post surgery

May 02, 2012

I came home from Hospital yesterday. The ride home was interesting. The discharge nurse gave me a pillow to put between my stomach and the seat belt. I sure am glad she did that; I now know how many pot holes and breaks in pavement there are between Hospital and home. That pillow saved me a lot of pain.

So here I am 3 days post op. I am trying to get back to a normal routine as quickly as possible. I have showered, shaved, had breakfast (1 oz of plain yogurt) and all of my meds (crushed pills taste nasty.). Oh yea, meds now include a self-administered blood-thinner shot for the next 14 days and pain pills.

It is so weird to not be hungry. Normally by this time I've had a big breakfast and am into my second large decaf from Starbucks. I say again; it is weird not being hungry.

Time for a morning walk! More later.
