Meeting the Surgeon

Sep 14, 2007

Well, last night I went to my first meeting.  And I changed my mind, I've decide to have the Roux-en -Y Bypass,  I don't think the Lap-band is for me.
The information Session was great!  Dr Bour and His Staff gave so much good information.  I am so excited.   They had a patient there to talk to us too and she was so helpful.  I have my enrollment Date set.   This will start the insurance process.  I have been told that my Medicare will cover this procedure.  My sister and I are going through this together.   So we are trying to set our visits at the same time.  They say she will probably have the surgery before I do.  That will be good, that way I will be there for her and she will have time to heal some so she can be there for me.   My enrollment date is Sep 19,   next week!   I'm not sure what all will happen at this visit, I believe it will include medical history, insurance stuff, and a few other things.   I can't wait........and it will be so much easier going through this with my sister.  We are all ready very close, but I'm sure this will make us even closer.  I have her support and my husbands and my 3 girls.  I know this will make a difference having a close knit family for support.  I want to be able to be here for them in the future.  I have had failing health since 1996.  I now have Asthma, Diabetes, Reflux, Osteporisis, and other Co -Morbids.  I have been Intribated several times due to Asthma,  It can only get better with this surgery.  I think this is my last hope.  I was cubby as a child but never really obese.  Even after my 3rd child I was able to loose down and wear a size 3.  I stayed small (110- 115) for about 3 years then I gained up to 135-145 and stayed there for about 5 years. then when I hit 28 I gained up to 150 - 160 and I started having asthma symptoms.  And the steriods started.  well, before I knew it I was at 180 and I was only 30.  Then the cycle started.  I would gain weight and my breathing would get bad so more steriods. I tried all kinds of diets, and would lose  20 - 30 lbs and would feel some better then, another attack, more steriods and more weight .and it continued this way for a few more years.  The next thing I knew I was35 and 280 and was in and out of the hospital.  I went on a low Carb diet and lost 100lbs but still 180.  But as soon as I went off the diet I gained it back plus  Then, I was at 305  I had a bad attack was on life support for a month or so and when I woke up I was very weak, had to go through re-hab just to walk, I had lost down to 260 and tried to stay on the diet they had put me on but I just couldn't do it.  So the last 7 years I have went up and down between 279 - 300.  And My health has gotten worse and worse.  I feel like this is my only hope. I need this surgery to save my life.  I want to Live......
