First Appointment with NUT

Jul 06, 2010

Super excited for tomorrow.  It's my first appointment with the nutritionist, which I've found WLS people call their NUT.  It took me a while to figure that one out.  Anyway, I'm just really excited for any appointments in the Bariatric department because it means I'm getting closer to actually having surgery!  I talked to the person at the clinic who deals with scheduling and insurance stuff last week because I'm thinking I'll need to take a semester off of school, or do a light load semester, during the time when I get my surgery done and I wanted to know if that is going to be this fall semester or next year.  She said it will definitely be this fall, before winter.  She sounded very sure, but I still haven't dropped any classes. I'm just worried that I'll drop the classes, find out my surgery won't be until after the semester would be over, and then not be able to get back into the classes because they are already waitlisting them!  So, that's where I stand now.  Having surgery in three months sounds too good to be true.  I really hope it's true.

The beginning.  So, a week ago Monday was my first appointment with my pcp.  I thought for sure I would need to do a 6 month nutrition/exercise program for my insurance because a different lady from work had to so I wanted to get a jump start. So, I went to that appt and submitted the paperwork to the bariatric clinic (in the same building).  The paperwork said it would be about 2 weeks until I heard from the clinic but it was only 2 days!!!!  They called me on Wednesday and said they got my paperwork and talked to my insurance and said I have 2 options, a 3 month plan or a 6 month plan.  They would look over the paperwork and call me Friday.  Well, I didn't hear from them, which was disappointing after a good start.  So, I called yesterday (Monday) and spoke with someone at the clinic.  She looked at my file and said we can get started and so we scheduled three appointments.  I have a written "test" that takes about an hour (I think it's part of the psych eval) this Thursday!!!!  Then, next Thursday I meet with the psychologist for face to face eval.  Then, on July 7th I meet with the nutritionist!  Yay, I'm super excited.  I'll update here at every chance I get.  I'm worried that my 3 months won't start until July 7th because that's when I'll meet with the nutritionist.  Oh well.  We will see.
