I have been battling my weight since my senior year in high school. I was in good shape while active in sports but once I quit sports and became less and less active my weight gradually increased. I weighed approximately 200 pounds from ages 18 to 23. At 5'10" this didn't look bad and was only about 30 pounds overweight. After my daughter was born I continued to gain with my highest being 290 pounds. I found that with this weight came knee, ankle, and foot problems. I also had trouble breathing if I was the least bit active. I also began to become depressed over the things I could no longer do. I tried every diet under the sun: weight watchers, nutrasystem, phentermine, southbeach, atkins, low cal etc. etc. I would lose some weight but I always gained it back. I had a friend who did the weight loss surgery and I watched her progress. I began looking into this for myself. I did lots and lots of research before deciding to pursue this avenue. I was not able to get insurance to cover this so I am taking on the expenses myself. By being self-pay, I feel even more strongly about making this life long change.
