my weightloss journey

Jul 30, 2011

On May 23, 2011 I had revision from DS to RnY.  It couldnt be done laproscopically.  My incision didnt heal completely.  I've been wearing a wound vac to assist in healing.  Last visit to the dr she took the wound vac off to give me a break so I've been cleaning the wound 3-4 times a day.  Hopefully this will work.  In the last 1 1/2 years I've been in and out of the hospital so much everyone in the hospital knows me very well.  Everyone cross your fingers that I heal soon.  Its been a long year and a half.

WLS Journey

Nov 14, 2010

Here I am again.  On Thursday, Nov. 5th I had surgery to fix the abcesses in my stomach.  It was suppose to be a 2 hours surgery but turned into 5.  there were a few bumps along the way.  My spleen had to be removed.  I was given three units of blood.  But Dr. B patched me up and I am on my way to better days.  Currently I am on tube feedings and soft  liquid diet.  Its not too bad.  I just try to keep as active as I can.  I feel better now than I've felt for over a year.

My WLS Journey

Oct 19, 2010

Hello to all of you.  I haven't written anything in my blog for sometime now.  The last three months have been firguring out what the heck is going on.  I've had unbearable pain in my left shoulder which was tod to me that it was a referring pain from either the stomach or eshophagas.  I was sent from one doc to the next with everyone having that deer in the headlight look on their faces.  Finally back to Dr. B and she sent me the the infectious disease doc.  Finally another answer I developed another abcess.  A drainage bag was inserted and a week later removed that everythinkg was fine now.  Three days later I was spiking a temp between 99-103.  Another ct scn was done to also check for a leak test and there it was.  One of them on my lung.  By four o'clock that evening Dr B had me going to the hospital no more food in my stomach just sips of water and ice chips.  This was last week Oct 7th.   I came home with the nutrition been fed through the veins and no food until every thing dries up and my protein levels                 come up to 16.  It was 7.5 when I left the hospital.  It was a year the 16th that I had my DS and I still don't regret it.

My WLS Journey

Jun 25, 2010

I'm now eight months post-op.  I have lost 143 lbs.  I have had so many WOW moments.  I can now sit in a booth at a restaurant.  I no longer have to use a seat belt extention in my van.  My four year old granddaughter and I can both fit in my recliner at the same time.  I have a lap and can cross my legs.  This is so cool.  My biggest obstacle is getting in all my protein.  I don't let the plateaus discourage me.  My family has been so supportive.  My husband is terrific.

My WLS Journey

Mar 20, 2010

Here I am again.  A week ago Wednesday the drain for the absess finally came out.  This last Friday another CT scan was performed to see if any reoccurring absesses were there.  The radiologist didn't think he saw anything but to follow up with my surgeon my next appointment, which is next Wed.  I feel fine with no pain.  I still have mobility issues  I have issues with getting up from chairs with no arms or if the chair sits too low to the ground.  Exercise is making me stronger so time will tell.  My weight loss so far is 107 lbs.  I am now in the two hundreds.  Its been 25 years since I've seen the 200's.  My weight actually matches the weight on my drivers license.  Now the picture needs to be re-taken.  Imagine a 400 lbs woman trying to pass off as a 295 lbs woman. What a dork.

My WLS Journey

Jan 31, 2010

Three and a half months out from my DS.  I've had complication after complication.  In and out of the hospital four times for a week at a time at least.  It seems if it could have happened it did.  I developed an absess in my stomach, then I had a pulmonary embolism.  Next fluid developed on the outside of my lungs and 3 liters of liquid was pulled off my lungs.  Then again I developed another absess that refuses to heal.  I totally realize that I am one of the rare exceptions to the rule.  I've lost some feeling in my right leg so my mobility is very limited but I am going to physical therapy.  On the upside I have lost 87 lbs and actually feel so much better before weight loss.  If the absess doesn't heal in a month and my nutrition levels are good I will have another surgery to fix the absess.  If there are any others who have had similar problems of this kind I would love to hear from you.  I do not regret having the surgery because I know that once I'm healed life will get back to normal.  I have the best surgeon in Ks and have total faith in her.

My WLS Journey

Dec 20, 2009

Its been a long while since I've posted.  I had my surgery Oct 16.  Its been quite the journey.  I've been in and out of the hospital 4 times with complications.  I developed an absess and had to have a drain put in.  The next time I had a pumonary embolism.  Now I'm on coumidin.  The third time fluid developed behind my left lung which caused me to quit breathing.  Then I developed another absess and had to have another drain put in.  Now I have to go to the hospital everyday until the 28th to have IV therapy for antibiotics.  I have lost 66 lbs.  I know it will get better but its sure taking its time.

My surgery date is tomorrow.  I've had my last supper if you can call it that. lol  I've been on the 10 day pre-op and have lost 22 lbs.  Amazing.  I'm so ready but still a little nervous which I believe is normal.  Now my journey begins.  Everyone move over and let me share the losers bench with you.  I never did get an angel so I will post as soon as I'm able to.  Hugs to you all for your support.

Weight loss journey

Oct 06, 2009

I started my pre-op diet today.  Hopefully I handle it well.  I do feel that my mind set is ready for whatever comes my way.  I have had a set back.  I injured my left foot a month ago while water jogging.  I was getting better then yesterday I was getting into my van and lost my balance when I lifted my right foot to enter the van and stumbled.  I caught myself with the bad foot.  I went to the doctor and they did an xray.  I'm waiting for the results.  the doctor thought it may be a stress fracture.  I hope this doesn't interfere with my surgery date.
It does feel better today after a night of resting it.

Weight loss journey

Sep 30, 2009

Yesterday I had my pre-op visit at the hospital and at Dr. Bernsten's office.  It was a long afternoon but enjoyable.  Everyone was so great.  There were lots of questions to answer and they took some blood and I had a chest xray.  I believe I'm good to go.  I am so excited to start my new life.  Again, thanks to all the great people on OH I couldn't have done this without your support.  I'm not real verbal on the blog but I am here reading and taking it all in.  I guess thats whats important.   I still don't have an angel as yet.  If anyone is interested just let me know.

Thanks,
Bettye
