First Fill

Dec 15, 2009

Yesterday I went to my surgeons office and had my first "fill". It turned out to be really easy and not painful. I have a large Band that has a capacity of 14cc's and now after my first fill I have 6.5 cc's, almost 50%. I can feel the difference but it's not as dramatic as I thought it would be. My guess is I will need another fill next month. No worries!

I gotta tell you about a special moment I had on the way to my surgeons office yesterday. I got on the elevator with a young woman and as the elevator started to climb I watched the display count off the floors, as we reached the young womans floor she surprised me by breaking the silence and said "Merry Christmas!" and as she left we shared a smile and I said "You too!". I realized that this was the first time I had heard it this year and was instantly in the Christmas spirit! She changed my whole day! I was thankful for her and that moment. I proceded to wish everyone a Merry Christmas after that! Hopefully I will brighten somebody's day just like she did!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I'm such a loser!

Dec 09, 2009

It's been 20 days since my LapBand surgery and I have lost 24 pounds. Add to that the 53 pounds I lost on the pre-op diet and I am down 77 pounds total. I'm all healed up and feeling great. I no longer take High blood pressure meds, my BP is great! I also haven't needed any insulin for my diabetes for 2 weeks. I was taking 5 shots per day! I've lost 10 inches off my waist and am wearing clothes I haven't fit into in 10 years.

Tuesday I go in for my first fill, very exciting! I knew the Band was the right tool for me!

God is really, really good!

9 Days Post-Op

Nov 29, 2009

I survived Thanksgiving!!!!! Ok, I didn't lose any weight that day, which has to be a first for me, but that's the only price I paid for a holiday that is focused on food. I think I did freakin AWESOME!

I have my post op appointment on Tuesday with my surgeon, I am anxious to find out where my port is...I think I know where it is...But maybe it's over here...Hmmm...Or here...

Tonight it's mashed potatos and blended carrots for dinner. Yahooooo!

3 Days Out

Nov 22, 2009

3 Days out and I'm feeling good! I know it's early in my recovery but I am starting to wonder what I was so worried about before surgery!

I took a shower yesterday, I removed the outer bandages from my incisions (5) and left the steri strips in place. The wounds were sensitive but healing nicely. I also drank a small can of spicy V8 juice, a protein shake, a crystal light popsicle, a 6 oz yogurt and sipped approx 60 ounces of water throughout the day. I had no nausea or vomiting. I was not hungry at all and my blood sugars were so good that I didn't need any insulin the entire day!

The only complaint I would have is feeling a bit bloated and gassssssy! But that is lessening with each day. I can feel the restriction of the band when I burp and I'm glad because it reminds me that it's there and I know it's working!

Today I am already enjoying a wonderful cup of coffee  and am looking forward to a walk around my property if the weather permits.

God is good, all the time!

First day out

Nov 20, 2009

My LapBand surgery went well! No complications or surprises yet.
I checked anto the surgery center at 8 am and checked out at noon. I have a moderate amount of pain at the upper incision below my diaphram but it is easily managed by the pain medication. I haven't had any vomitting but it is slightly uncomfortable to belch.

It's amazing how long a water bottle lasts when you can only take small sips!

That's just wrong!

Nov 17, 2009

I bought myself a new scale today, it talks. First you tap it with your toe to turn it on and it says "hello" then it says "I'm ready" then you step on and it tells you your weight. Very cool! So I followed the directions and turned it on and it said "Hello" and then it said "I'm ready" so I stepped onto it and after a short pause it said "One person at a time please" That's just wrong!
