Like many of you, I've battled my weight most of my life. It all started in the 3rd grade- my parents got divorced around the same time, so I have to believe that food became too important a part of my life around this time. I've tried every diet imaginable, and I've had some success, only to gain the weight back every time. I've known about gastric bypass, but I always considered it too dangerous. I had a friend who got the band, and he had great success. Combine this with the success that John Daly has had with his band, and I thought that maybe the band was the answer. After consulting with a doctor, he advised me that the band would work, but the results wouldn't be as significant as they would be with RNY. Also, in the preop testing, it was determined that I had diabetes. RNY would be a better procedure which could hopefully end my diabetes, and get me quicker results. On October 19th, I had the operation. I was a self-pay, so it all happened pretty quickly. From a highest weight of 329, I now weigh 218 exactly 10 months from my surgery date. I have not been good about exercising, but I have done a good job of sticking to the plan. My weight loss has slowed to 3-4 pounds a month, which is fine, especially if I continue losing for 18 months. I will exercise...it's just a matter of getting started.
