5 days Post Op

Nov 26, 2011

I am so thankful.  I am so grateful.  I am so blessed.  I have the most attentive and knowledgable surgeon.  My surgery went well.  I was released three days later, filled with such a positive spirit and determination to make this tool my success for a new, healthy lifestyle.

I've learned so much from this website, that there wasn't much mystery about the surgery and my recovery.  So far, so good!  I walk as often as I can, and eat and drink properly.  Setting up my habits for a lifetime.

I hope everyone is doing well!  It's below zero here in Alaska, so I am keeping warm and enjoying the holiday with family.

Surgery November 21, 2011

Nov 11, 2011

I'm close!  Only 10 more days, until my RNY surgery.  This week has been a diet of high protein, low carbs.  I've been doing good on it.  I've also been studying alot about other RNY post-op patient's experiences and suggestions. Whey protein powder is going to be my best friened.  There are also some good recipes online for high protein shakes.  I've had my daughter come over to the house to help clear out freezer and pantry of the wrong foods, and we will go shopping for my post op supplies tomorrow.  I have set my pantry up so that every shelf that is eye level is mine.  Currently they are empty, but will soon be occupied by only the healthy stuff.  I am also doing all of my heavy cleaning around the house, and organizing my closets.  All of the elastic waist stuff will be near and easy to access.

I intend to make my first few weeks of post-op surgery a very focused effort on exercising each day, eating and drinking as perscribed, and establishing healthy habits that will make me another long term success!  I know that it will be hard in the beginning, but if I keep on trying each and every day, I will be successful.  I am so tired of being sick and tired.  I am only (lol) 60 years old, but I hate that I feel like an old woman that can't do the things that I physically want to do.  And heavens, I look forward to the day when I am not embarrassed trying to buckle the seat belt on an airplane!  Sitting in a seat, trying to give the person next to me some room!   Eeeesh......

My goal is to lose 100 lbs.  I weigh 260 now, and anymore than 100 lbs lost will be twice the blessing...........

I have a Surgery Date!

Oct 28, 2011

I'm excited!  I finally have a surgery date.  I received my insurance approval two weeks ago, and the doctor's office called and said that I'm the star for November 21st.,  I start my pre-op protein diet on Nov. 7th to shrink my liver, etc.  I'll pick up my surgery orders at the Doctor's office on Nov. 18th, pre-register for surgery at the hospital the saem day, and the rest is my new journey!

9/29/2011: Final Pre-Requisite Test Next Week.

Sep 29, 2011

9/29/2011:  So close to being done with all the prerequisites! Yesterday was the EKG and tox screen.  My final appointment is Monday, Oct. 3rd - the Nutritional Evaluation.  Last night I ordered a new book from Amazon,   "Ready, Set, Shrink, Helpful Hints After Gastric Bypass Surgery" by Lori Ferrante.  Looks like it has some great post-op suggestions on what to have around the house when you get home from surgery.  I also downloaded some suggestions from another Doctor's website, regarding the first six weeks after surgery.  Trying to educate myself as much as possible.  I can't wait to have an actual surgery date.  I can ask the Doctor's Office to coordinate my health insurance approval after my Monday's appointment!  I just KNOW that I am going to have such a good experience!  My family is so supportive, and my husband is going to take some time off of work, to play nurse.  I love it!  Weight is at 265 lbs.
