Happy 9th Anniversary to me!

Mar 31, 2013

Well, here I am, nine years post op and still struggling with lower GI issues.  I just started taking a new drug called Linzess and unfortunately, I am experiencing one of the major side effects associated with it, which is diarrhea.  Wow, if it's not one thing it's another.  My weight is now at 169, so I'm up a bit since my five year post op anniversary, but I'm still happier here than when I weighed 272.  I have post op IBS-C which is very painful.  I recently tried colon hydrotherapy for the first time.  It was okay, but really not much different than if I'd given myself 3 or 4 enemas one after another.  The lady was nice, if not kinda kooky, but that's okay, I can handle kooky.  Doubt I'll go back again, but it was an interesting experience.  Just wish she wasn't so rushed for time, which made me feel as if I was holding her back on her day and other appointments.  I realize it's her job to make me feel at ease, so on that note, she failed miserably.  Would I go through bariatric surgery again?  No, I don't think so.  I highly recommend it for those of you that have severe weight associated health issues, such as diabetes, but if you haven't done all you can on your own then you owe it to yourself to keep trying before putting yourself under the knife for such invasive surgery.  If you can, get the gastric banding instead.  I would have gone that route if my doctor had performed the surgery, but he flat out refused to because he said the weight was always gained back once the band was removed so he considers it a failed procedure.

So, there you have it!  Think twice, thrice and more before having this surgery.  I had, and thought it was the right choice for me. Perhaps it really was, but I'm not happy about all the GI difficulties and pain I have now.
