Mark D. Kozar

"Dr. Kozar works out of Wesern Bariatric in Reno. After I found out he was going to be my doctor, I was sort of worried because I had read the reviews here and they described him as matter of fact and often late. I found neither of those to be true, so far at least. I have only had my consultation with him. He was very relaxed and very relaxing, explaining everything. rnA review of Kozar is really a review of Western Bariatric- they work as a team. The office staff has been quite helpful. I was assigned a patient advocate who has been really helpful through all of my referals. She helped a lot when the insurance turned me down (I appealed and got it overturned). The one thing I didn't like about the staff so far is that I was refered to have an upper GI, which showed I had a hernia. Western Bariatric never got back to me with the results of this test, and when we applied to my insurance company they had included repairing the hernia in the pre-authorization form without ever even notifying me I had it. rnDr. Kozar explained that the surgery is just a tool and that compliance with the post-op program was what really helps you get healthy. It's an incredibly structured (and sort of scary to commit to) plan including follow-up appointments with dieticians and the surgeon, joining a gym is mandatory, support groups...and on and on. It's a culmination of the most successful techniques to lose weight and keep it off is what he told me. rnI haven't had my surgery yet, so we'll see how it goes from here on out with Western Bariatric. At this point I am waiting for a call from their scheduling department, which, while exciting, is still surreal. Advice to any future patients: He is blunt, but it isn't mean-blunt, it's \"these are the facts\" blunt. If you don't feel comfortable, ask him some questions, even if you know the answers. I found that the more he talked and showed me he knew exactly what he was doing, the better I felt. I'll update this post-op."
