I have been over weight since I was a child. My weight has been a crazy roller coaster going up and down from 287-325. My family on my father side is mostly heavy with large breast (at least my grandma and I). On my mother side they are average size men and women. All of my family has health problems like thyroid, diabetes, and high blood pressure etc. I decided to take my WLS journey after years of failed diets and on going health issues. Being over weight has not allowed me to do things I have wanted too do. I have been made fun off and give comments like” she has a pretty face for a big girl”. These comments after years and years have eating a way at my self esteem to the point I feel like I have to hide with in my clothes. I look forward to making the best out of new my life. OH is a great site I have learned so much and look forward to learning more and meeting new friends on the same WLS journey.

Everyone has asked me why i decided to go with the DS so i decided to included in my story to share with everyone.
I chose the ds because there is almost no change of dumping. The ds has a fully functioning stomach ( RNY the pouch bypasses the pyloric valve that regulates flow of stomach contents to the intestines(Ds dont dump). There is no blind stomach left behind so the hormone that created ghrelin which make you hungry is not produced. It has the highest average amount of excess weight loss of any current procedure. Aswell as the highest average success rate at maintaining the weight loss long term. The highest potential cure rate for sleep apnea(which i have). A big plus for me was being able to have the most normal way of eating after surgery (no counting calories, no limiting fat, no unnaturally narrow passages where food may get stuck, etc.).The ability to take ansaids for minor pains the ds have the acids etc to be able to process them with out causing our stomach to burn. The rny has a high risk for ulcers if ansaids are used, after years of joint pain and swelling bad cramps and the knowledge that tylenol does not work for my pain this was a plus for me. I have been to support group meeting and have heard the stories of those that have RNY struggle daily with eating food and it getting suck, eating etc this really scared me because this is not normal. Overall i feel that the DS is for me and is the best way i feel i can live normally after wls. I would suggest that anyone who is considering WLS research as much possible to determine what will works best for you.
