UPDATE 7 months Post Op

Jul 09, 2009

So I have been feeling good and working out like crazy.  I have been having a lot of menstrual problems that we can't figure out where they are coming from.  At this point I have lost around 92 lbs since I started losing before surgery.  It seems that since my female problems began, I stopped losing weight.  Very frustrating but okay.

Here's the shocker, this week I just found out that I am pregnant.  Only 4 weeks.  I am nervous and excited all at once.  Before any one lectures me, this was NOT planned and I am taking very good care of myself.  Just a little over a year ago, I had a miscarriage at 18 weeks.  After that we had decided that we were not going to have any more kids (already have 3).  We were using bc but it seems it was meant to be!  I will keep everyone posted on how this progressses and any problems I have because of surgery.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts or advice you all have!

2 Months and 1 week Out and 36 lbs gone

Jan 26, 2009

So I have been doing fairly well.  I have had some minor issues along the way, like not being able to tolerate water, even with Crystal Light or whatever.  I have had to post-op infections from the catheter and IV and 2 rounds of antibiotics.  I have been walking 3-5 miles 6 days a week and I am feeling great.  At one point I did not lose anything for 2 weeks, in fact I gained 2 lbs.  I got through my first plateau and I am okay with that.  So for a total, I have lost 65 lbs since October, when I started my Pre-Op Diet.  I have found Boca Burgers are great and have a ton of protein.  I live off of Denison's 99% FF Chili and I live for my chewable Bariatric Fusion Vitamins because I can tell that they are REALLY working and they are good tasting and not too expensive.  Anyway, I hope you all are having a good go of it and keep up your hard work.  Yes, we have this great tool to help with the weight loss but we still need to make the right decisions and exercise daily!  All of this is hard to do, especially when you are busy and don't have time to eat.  Believe me, between my three kids (ages 2, 4, and 6), my involvement at their school and cheerleading and my husband, I know it's hard to fit extra stuff in but we all CAN DO IT!

I'm Home....

Nov 30, 2008

My surgery took 3 1/2 hours and another 4 hours before I woke up enough for them to let my husband in.  I had surgery at 7:30am and was in my room at 4pm. I was up and walking at 6pm (250yards!!!!)  walked once more that night.  They discharged me the next day at 2pm.  They have NEVER discharged a RNY'r on the day after surgery!  I guess I was doing so well that they let me go.  The most pain I experienced was from the JP Drainage tube.  It was up against my lungs and with each breathe I had extreme pain, not to mention when the striped it, I had problems for 30 minutes... not good.  I was still having pain from the now removed drain but not bad. I spoke to the Dietitian who went over all we could and couldn't eat and answered all my questions.  I asked her specifically about the 30 grams of protein and if that's all we could absorb at one time, she said that that is not true.  We can absorb any amount at one time.  Also, she was very impressed with the All-In-One chewable vitamin I had found and that all the vitamins and minerals came in a from that was most readily absorbed by our bodies. (www.bariatricfusion.com)  She also said that the IsoPure RTD Zero Card drinks were great post surgery.  So we went home Wednesday and I survived the night and the wonderful shower I took.  The next morning (Thanksgiving) we woke up and drove 2 1/2 hours to my parents house where our children had been staying.  The drive was a little rough, but not too bad.  I slept on a reclines up there with my heating pad and was VERY happy!  Everything went well but when I woke up Saturday morning, my arm (where my IV had been) was swollen, painful and had red streaks.  After a quick ER visit, it was determined that I had an infection from the IV and was put on liquid antibiotics and now I am feeling better.  I was at my parents house all week and we came home today.  I am VERY tired and have only had water, IsoPure protein drink, chicken broth, sf Popsicles and 3 bites of SF jello.  My husband has been trying to make me rest but it is hard.  Now I am resting and drinking.  I am scared to try milk or any thicker fluid...I guess I will wait a couple more days.  Thank you so much for all your thoughts.  Make sure to let me know how you are doing!  My husband asked me on the way home today, "Would you do it again?"  I said, "Oh yeah!  I know this is changing my life."  Oh yeah, I went to Wal-Mart this morning on the way home to grocery shop for the week, and I even pushed the cart and I survived that as well.  I was definitely tired and promptly feel asleep in the car but I was okay!  Please feel free to PM me and ask me ANY questions you want answered.  Now that I have been through it, I am very happy to help in any way I can.  I will post again after my 2 weeks post op appointment!

Only 12 days away from surgery and I can't wait!  I am on day 2 of my self imposed liquid diet and I have lost 5 lbs in those 2 days...can you believe it?  It's hard for me to.  Anyway, I wanted to tell you all about a product Ireally believe in.  It's called the Fresh Air Buddy.  Basically you wear it around your neck and it uses ions to keep viruses, bacteria, smoke dust and toxic allergens out of your breathing space and keep them from coming in contact with your eyes.  My husband went from having allergy shots every week, using 3 allergy meds and still getting sinus infections from his allergy issues (after he started using the FRESH AIR BUDDY) to only using his Nasonex and being able to stop all other treatments and has not had a sinus infection at all.  It is AMAZING!  If this sounds like something that would help you or someone you know, please checkout this website www.ecoquest.com/kcr  and click over on the right the Fresh Air Buddy link.  You will not regret it.  Make sure you check out their other products that will help you save money on your energy bill, save you money on laundry soap & hot water bill (LaundryPure) and the Fresh Air whole house air cleaning system (it evens gets rid of molds, which is everywhere in the south!)
