10 years after surgery

Jun 10, 2010

When the obesityhelp email came it almost startled me to remember my surgery. I can barely remember the distress that being overweight caused.

For me the surgery went perfect and the recovery was quick.  The hardest part was learing to eat slow so I would not over eat and get sick.  I was worried about not being able to enjoy eating any more.    What I found though was that there was so much more in life to enjoy and I did not even miss it.

Food is just something to eat when I am hungry now not by best friend.

Before surgery

Jun 10, 2010

My family has a bad history of heart disease and diabetes. Out of my Dad's 8 siblings all have had repeated Bi-Pass sugery, heart attacks and several have diabetes. One is blind from the diabetes and many of them have serverly impacted mobility, and many other health problems along with their very restricted quality of life. All have spent their whole lives morbidly or super-morbidly obese. I don't want my life to become part of those statitics.

My goal before I have surgery is to read every profile on this web page. In the process of doing that I have read the lists of things that people can do now that they did not do before or that they want to do. My health is the reason I am willing to take the risk but there are some quality of life reasons that are driving me to want to hurry.

1.) I want to be able to wear a sweater and jeans on a fall or winter day without sweating and without looking a like a moving tank in the sweater.

2.) When going places with a group of friends I don't want to be the one struggling behind all the time.

3.) I don't want to feel self concious about what I eat in public like everyone is waiting to see how much the fat lady eats.

4.) When we go to Hawaii I want to be able to walk down Wikiki beach in a swim suit and not be embassed.

5.) I want to go, go, go and do all I hope and dream not sit around too tired and sick to move and have my kids bring me my pills! I want to be free!

5/30/2002 My surgery is in 8 days, my daughter graduates in 6 days from high school. It is a time of stress. I will be relieved to get it over with.
