It's been 14 1/2 months

Aug 22, 2008

I had labs done last week and other than my ALT and AST, everything was good. I take my vitamins, B12 injection, calcium and iron each day. I drink about 100 oz. of water each day and eat on average 80 grams of protein.

Because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and was taking Methotrexate injections, my doctor thinks that is what is messing up the liver labs. I will have them redrawn in 4 weeks.

My weight is now 142. I lost 3 lbs. in the past month after I thought I had pretty much stabilized.

The following is what I posted in my blog on my 1 year surgerversary, 6-5-08.

Yes, it has been 1 year ago today that I had my Gastric Bypass. It's been a good year. Having the surgery is a big decision and it's one that I am so glad that I made.

A year ago, I wore size 20W pants and 2X tops. This year I wear size 6 pants and small tops.

A year ago, I was on numerous meds. This year I am on vitamins.

A year ago, I was pre diabetic with a A1C of 6.7. This year it is 5.4.

A year ago, I had high cholestrol. This year it is 138.

A year ago, I got out of breath just carrying a laundry basket. This year I don't remember the last time I was out of breath.

A year ago, I used a BiPap to sleep due to sleep apnea. This year I don't need it and don't even snore.

A year ago, I weighed 258, down from my January all time high weight of 272. This year I weight 148.

Update

Apr 25, 2008

I mostly update on my blog which is listed on the left under my profile if you care to read. On my blog you will also find a link to my Flickr where you can see more photos of my weight loss journey this past year.

The good news is I am finally a "normal" weight!! Two years ago, I would have never thought I could say that again. I now weigh 149. In February of 2007 I was 272 which is my highest weight ever. It's been 10 1/2 months since my surgery and it's been a wonderful year!

Single Digit Pants

Feb 02, 2008

When I was out shopping the other day I bought a pair of size 8 pants thinking they would encourage me to get exercising not just walking or using the Gazelle. I didn't try them on but when I got home I wanted to see how much it would take before they fit. OMG, they fit perfect! I was so happy and couldn't believe it! I honestly do not remember the last time I was a size 8. My wedding gown in 1981 was a junior 9/10 so it's been a really long time. lol

Happy Birthday to me!

Jan 20, 2008

Yesterday was my 52th birthday and I haven't felt this good in years! I am down to 158 and wearing size 10P.

The other day I went to the library and used the stairs to the 2nd floor. In the past, by the time I got up there, I would be out of breath, my heart would be pounding out of my chest, I could hear my heart pounding in my head and would feel almost faint. I would have to sit a few moments before looking at books. Well, last week when I got to the 2nd floor, I could continue on to look at books. I wasn't even out of breath!! OMG, what a wonderful feeling it was! Before it was like I was carrying another person up those stairs with me. I have lost 114 lbs. since 1/31/07.

I will update my photos later today.

Today's weigh in

Dec 02, 2007

I am now in the 160's. 168 to be exact! Haven't been this low in years and years!

Thankful post

Nov 28, 2007

I wanted to write this on Thanksgiving but never got around to it. I am extremely thankful to Dr. Murr for doing this surgery. And now I do appreciate all the requirements that I had to get the okay for surgery. Dr. Murr doesn't just agree to do surgery, he makes sure you are healthy enough to handle the surgery. At the time, I just felt like I had one delay after another. Now I understand it was the best thing to do. Dr. Murr, you have more than made my day... you have me made life! Thank you so very much!

On January 31, I weighed 272 which was my highest weight ever! On Sunday I weighed 171 so I am down 101 pounds! This is so amazing to me and I feel so good that it's unbelievable. I had forgotten what it was like to do things and not get out of breath and feel bad. I can weed my flower beds and not have to keep sitting down before I feel like passing out. No longer do I get out of breath carrying a basket of laundry from the garage into the house.

Life is good!

My Photos

Feeling Wonderful

Oct 08, 2007

October 5 was my 4 month surgiversary! Wow, time is flying by and I'm feeling great. I'm down 80 lbs. and have gone from a 20W to a size 14P. That was such a thrill to buy those pants! I never honestly thought I would ever see a size 14 again.

Last month I had labs done and everything was within normal ranges. MyA!C which ran 6.2 to 6.5 prior to surgery is now 5.1! My cholestrol is 145. I don't remember when it was that low even with meds. I no longer use my CPAP.

I just wish I had done this much sooner! Dr. Murr is my hero! Life is great thanks to him!

2 Weeks Out and Feeling Good

Jun 19, 2007

It's hard to believe it's been 2 weeks already. Just think, 2 weeks ago tonight I was in a drugged stupor and not wanting to move! Wow, things have changed, thank God!

I am down 20 pounds plus the 5 that I gained in the hospital. I'm walking each day. Since I live in Florida and it's been so very hot, hubby has been taking me to the mall to walk where it's cooler. I don't want to get dehydrated from the Florida heat.

It's been several days since I've taken anything of the pain meds... don't need them at all now. I'm able to lay on my sides and sleep comfortably once again. This is in the TMI category but I can now go to the bathroom and wipe without the tongs that the hospital sent me home with.

I discovered that most of the protein drinks gag me! I have a few that are okay but am mainly sticking with soy protein. Doesn't turn my stomach like the smell of whey protein.

The only time I have been sick to my stomach was the 2nd day and I believe the morphine was the cause of it. I felt so overdrugged and had some nausea. I could barely stand to do the leak test I was so drugged. Right after that they changed my meds. I have to say though I slept through almost my entire hospital stay. Never turned on tv since I couldn't stay awake.

Drinking my protein drinks, sipping water and eating popsicles each day. The first few days I never made the required 60 grams of protein but I am now which is good. Taking all my vitamins daily too. I still am a little short of 48 oz. of water each day but getting closer each day. Before surgery I would go through 64 oz. a day! I was a guzzler and am still learning to sip. I've mistakenly gulped too much a couple of times and it hurt.

Tomorrow is day 15 which means I start my pureed diet which lasts until day 45. I got a few jars of baby food just to test them out. If they are gross, I won't have many to throw away! I'm really looking forward to having some tuna pureed. And applesauce sounds so yummy right now! But I honestly don't get hungry, thirsty, yes, but real hunger... nope.

I had one moment while I was in recovery when I thought WTF did I do this for?? but I pushed the pain button and haven't thought it since! lol It's been a great journey so far!

I'm a LOSER!!!!

Jun 09, 2007

My surgery was on Tuesday so I can finally say that I am a Loser!! Never thought that would sound so good!

Things went well and I was discharged on Thursday afternoon after I had peed enough to satisfy them. lol

Each day I feel a little bit better which is a good feeling! On Wednesday I was beginning to think I'd take a lot longer to feel this good! Once I got off the strong drugs, things started to improve for me.

Oh, what a thrill when I passed the leak test and was able to have that ounce of water... tasted so good!

Will update more later.
