Almost 11 weeks out

Apr 20, 2010

Well I am happy to say that I have lost 50 lbs.  I can't believe it.  I am now down from a 3x to a 1x in tops, and from a size 26 pant to a size 20.  I have been walking now and my knee doesn't really bother me.  Before I lost the weight I couldn't even walk because my knee would hurt so bad.  Nothing much has changed with the food, still don't really eat any meat, mostly cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese and Wendy's chili.  One small container will make 2-3 meals for me.  Went somewhere this weekend and I had on some new jean capris and a new more fitted top and got so many compliments.  Of course I am thrilled to say the least.  So happy I had this surgery!

Almost 8 weeks out

Mar 30, 2010

Well, I'm not quite 8 weeks out.  I did have a stall at week 6 and was not happy but I knew that I was losing inches so I did not let it get me down.  I decided to re-take my measurements to see how many inches I had lost.  I couldn't believe that I had lost 12 inches total from both arms, chest, waist, hips, and thighs.  I was very happy then.  I was in a size 24/26 jeans before I had surgery and within a few weeks of having surgery I went to a size 22 and now they are getting too big for me.  Lots of my tops that were snug on me before are now too big.  I've been holding off buying any clothes since the weight and inches are coming off pretty quickly, but I am going to have to break down soon and buy some especially since the weather is changing and spring is here.

Food is still trial and error for me.  Some things work and some things don't.  I still struggle with getting my protein in, some days are better than others depending on if I've ate certain foods that are high in protein.  Also getting my fluids in are also still a chore.  I may only drink a 16oz bottle of water all day long.  Still haven't got that timer back out yet, I need to find where I put it.    I'm at least not tired like I used to be, I started taking a B1 vitamin and not sure if that's what did the trick or not or if it was just that I was further along with my surgery but anyway at least I can stay up again past 10:00, lol.  I'm still not walking like I should I need to make sure and start doing this better also.  It takes 21 days to form a habit they say.  I just need to begin day 1.

1 month out

Mar 09, 2010

Well, I'm actually a little past 1 month out.  As of March 4th I have lost 31 lbs.  I feel good. I'm still struggling with trying to get all of my protein in.  I'm really really trying to work hard on getting my protein in and the last couple of days I've managed to get the 60 grams in that I am required.  I just can't seem to find a protein drink that I actually love, but I'm trying to tolerate the ones I do have and am still trying different ones to this date.  I do not have any regrets still with having this surgery, meal time is just not a highlight of my day anymore like it used to be, lol.  Just coming off of the soft food stage and just not finding a lot of stuff yet that I can eat. Sometimes after I eat my stomach feels weird like yesterday for lunch as soon as I started eating my chicken noodle soup it felt really wierd.  Today I had 1 TBSP. of all natural peanut butter and it didn't bother me at all so everything right now is just trial and error, but I know I'll figure it all out before long. None of the protein drinks bother my stomach even though some are pretty nasty, and I can drink low sodium V8 juice with no problems.  I don't care for plain water and also struggle with trying to get all my fluids in.  I guess I'm gonna have to get my timer out and make myself drink every 15 minutes.  I get tired in the evenings but I think that's still from lack of protein and fluids.  I've not been walking and I am going to make sure that I start doing that also. So really I have not had any problems at all. and very happy with my weight loss so far!

4 days Post Op

Feb 08, 2010

Today is Feb 8th, 2010 and I'm 4 days post op.  The first day I was pretty wiped out from my surgery, but I was up and walking around the hospital around 4:30, and then slept and walked the rest of the evening.  Not really much pain more of a soreness to me.  My throat was really sore and my mouth was so dry, I just kept asking for ice chips as much as I could.  The next morning after the doctor had been in I got my first clear liquids I was able to drink 1 oz of diluted juice, 1 oz of broth and couldn't eat my 2 oz of jello they brought me.  After that I had to wait 4 hours to see if I could tolerate the food and finish up the last IV that was hooked up.  Around 2 p.m. I was discharged with no drains, just that OnQ pain pump that you carry in a bag around your neck.  After my 2 hour trip home from the hospital I fell asleep from 6-7p.m. and then went to bed at 9:30 and slept really well, I was able to sleep on my side even (right side better than left).  Next morning I got up and my stomach felt a little upset but after I took my pepcid I was feeling really great.  I couldn't believe it.  The only pain medication I took other that the OnQ pump was liquid Tylenol.  I sat up all day didn't lay down once walked around my house several times and went to bed around 10:00.  The next morning I got up and felt a little sick to my stomach again but after the pepcid the sickness didn't seem to go away, in fact it got worse.  I realized after being sick all day that maybe the watered down white grape juice that I was drinking was the cause of my upset stomach.  I jumped on this website and decided to ask everyone what they though and sure enough they all agreed it was from too much natural sugar in the juice even though it was watered down.  I won't be drinking that for awhile.  I threw out the juice and after several hours my upset stomach went away and I got up this morning and took my pepcid and no more upset stomach and I feel great again.  I was having trouble getting in my fluids but today seems much easier.  I'm so happy right now.  I go back to the doctor on Wednesday for my 1 week checkup.
