Unlike most people I can't say that i've been overweight my entire life. But I have been overweight for the past 15 years. I will be 40yrs old next year. Like everyone else I have tried every yoyo diet imaginable. In 2007 I lost about 40lbs. while taking diet pills and working out. Of course you know how the story goes stopped the pills and the weight came right back. In March of 2008 I had to have back surgery and it has been down hill since then. Even while overweight up until then I had a very productive and active life. I worked a very physical job, I had been a mail carrier since 1994 and I was a student. I haven't worked since the surgery. I was told after surgery that I needed to loose 75lbs. HOW, I couldn't even walk without a cane!! I became very depressed. I had just graduated from college and became disabled all at once. Since my back surgery I have gained about 30lbs. My back is in constant pain everyday. I discussed WLS with my doctor in 2009 but, was terrified to have surgery because I had so many complications with my back that lead to me having 2 additional surgeries. Even though I had decided against WLS I still began to research. After enough pain and deep PRAYER in November I decided that at this point in my life WLS was what I needed. Scared to tell my family I asked a friend to join me at the seminar on Nov. 17, 2012. My insurance has been approved im just waiting to have my sleep test done (Jan 17, 2013) then I will get my surgery date. I can't wait!!! I have since told my family. At first my daughter who is a freshman in college didn't think I was making a good choice. After explaining to her why I decided on WLS her only request was to see If I could wait until she was home from school. So I was really hoping to have my surgery at the end of December. But, because of my sleep study thats not possible. My parents have been very supportive. My dad has even began his own research. He said he knows that if I have agreed to have another surgery I have thought it out and researched it well. My sister who is my bestfriend was more excited than me she's so happy to get her sister back!!
