3 am ER Crazyness!

Jan 26, 2009

So Sunday night im sitting at home watching a movie and feel just fine. I fell asleep around 11 and then at 3am all hell broke loose. I woke up SCREAMING in pain. I had an extreme sharp pain under my rib cage and the only way i could describe it at the time was it felt like someone was ripping my insides out. My parents rush me to the closest ER and on the way i almost passed out from the pain. We get there and after what seemed like an eternity of my still yelling out in pain i they give me some pain dimerol which in turn makes me sick so now im dry heaving *the hits just keep on coming..lol* So once i finally calm down and the pain eases enough, they take me back for a CT scan. The doctor came in and told us that i had Pancreatitis and that it is one of the most painful things like that you can get. After hearing that my parents wanted me to be transferred to Vanderbilt hospital which is where i had my RNY done. So i take my first ride in an ambulance about 20 minutes downtown to Vandy. Once i get there i get an Ultrasound done (during which the technician told me i had a "baby spleen" and she had one too i thought i was special lol)  to determine what had actually caused my Pancreatitis, My surgeon looked at it and at that point decided to admit me to the Hospital because it had been caused by lots of little gallstones :( So its now 5pm on monday and i finally get out of the ER and into a regular room. My surgeon comes in and talks to me and says that they will have to wait probably at least until thursday for my Pancreas enzymes to go down until they can go in and remove my gallbladder. I was frustrated because it was my first full week of class and i was going to be sitting in a hospital. Tuesday morning they came in and did bloodwork and and little later to my surprise they told me my levels had balanced out enough to where they could go ahead and do my surgery that day! Around 11am they came and got me and rolled me down to get me prepped. I went in for surgery around 12:30. Coming out of recovery i was VERY VERY naseaous whcih i found odd because anesthesia has never made me sick like that before. After surgery one of my doctors came in and told me that the reason my surgery took so long (over 2 hours instead of 1 hour and 15 mins..) was because while they were in there they discovered that i had a little extra, nonactive liver (so thats now 2 "extra non active organs... im REALLY special) that had attached its self to my gallbladder so they had to re work the surgery to go ahead and remove that as well.  I stayed in the hospital that night and came home wednesday morning. I have had a lot of issues with pain in one incision and nasuea but for the most part its under control. Im going back to class tomorrow and i go thursday for my post-op. Needless to say its been a whirlwind of a week and im SO glad i got to have my same surgeon do this surgery. Thank you to everyone for the well wishes and love :)  Other than all of this everything has been great. I finally hit my 100lbs lost mark and it feels amazing. I cant believe ive lost 100 lbs in less than 7 months. How lucky am i to have this amazing tool?! Sorry this was so long i just wanted to get the story all written out! haha Hope yall have a good week :)
